XR Lab Support Engineer

General Summary:

Qualcomm’s Visual Technology Team is seeking a Lab Support Engineer to work in the XR Advanced Technology Group, responsible for providing technical support for XR test systems. Work is done independently drawing on the experience of others as necessary. Responsible for testing XR devices/peripherals, assembling custom prototypes, and maintaining the lab space.

A successful candidate will be responsible for:

Testing camera and display modules for key performance metrics and tabulating results.Running metrology equipment to perform color performance measurements of reference device XR displays to spot check for device manufacturer compliancy.Operate custom robotics, in conjunction with high-speed camera rigs to capture real-time performance of XR devices.Maintain our fleet of XR devices keeping them demo ready, including performing SW upgrades, installing demo applications, and battery charging.Manage and organize the XR lab space, including inventory management for parts, consumer VR devices, and reference platforms.Operate and maintain the XR team’s 3-D printer.Electronics assembly, wire assembly, and basic soldering for prototype hardware.Working on multiple project assignments simultaneously, self-setting priorities, and driving tasks to completion.Perform with limited supervision and direction from the project lead.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

5+ years of experience with design, development, R&D, or similar experience in Electronics or related area.

Ability to use a VR/AR headset for a maximum of 2 hours per day, up to 30 minutes per session, without ill effects.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred skills and experience

2+ years professional experience operating automated robotics test equipment, or metrology equipment, or high-speed camera test platforms.Experience managing/organizing lab space, including inventory management for electronic parts/samples, test equipment, and reference platforms.Knowledge and passion for consumer available Virtual Reality devices.Experience assembling custom small quantity prototypes.Electronic assembly and soldering skills.3D printer and CAD experience.Understand the main concepts of basic photography.Able to update/maintain the SharePoint website for the lab space and team equipment lists.Excellent with collating and organizing large amounts of test data located and stored on servers.Ability to understand and listen for the information required by an audience and distill to key points.Experience fostering teamwork between various functional groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of Support Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Associate's degree and 3+ years of Support Engineering or related work experience.
OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 4+ years of Support Engineering or related work experience.

*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years (Master’s = one year, Doctorate = two years) of work experience.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$40.77 - $61.15

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
