Job Summary:

Disney Entertainment’s eight owned ABC stations are multiplatform leaders in local news and information. As the No. 1 station in Philadelphia for almost 45 years, 6abc Action News delivers local news, information, traffic, and weather to more than 3 million homes. WPVI serves close to 7 million people, 2+ who reside in the Delaware Valley, an area covering Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. In the past year, Action News has won 2,633 out of 2,662 newscasts in households for a winning percentage of 99.8%. In an average day, Action News captures nearly 45% of all adult 25-54 news viewers. WPVI has provided coverage of the Thanksgiving Day Parade for 100 years in 2019!

WPVI is seeking a dynamic, driven, and versatile General Assignment Reporter who thrives in a fast-paced, competitive news environment. This role is ideal for a journalist who is passionate about uncovering exclusive, enterprise-level stories and delivering impactful news in one of the nation’s most diverse markets. This candidate should be prepared to create lead stories on hard news on a regular basis, with an occasional feature story.

We’re not looking for local spins on national stories—we want original, hard-hitting journalism that reflects the unique voices and issues of our local communities.

What You Will Do

Candidates must be master storytellers who can identify, develop, shoot, write, edit, produce, and report high-quality, enterprising stories for multiple platforms.

Our ideal candidate also knows how to tell high-impact stories utilizing data and other research tools and is willing to experiment with new technology.

Must have a desire to serve the community and a knack for quickly cultivating contacts and exclusive story ideas.

Required Qualifications & Skills 

Qualified candidates must have a minimum 3-year major market television news experience

Must be flexible with working hours (late nights, overnights, Weekends, and holidays) and adaptable to change.

Background check clearance and a clean driving record will be required.

A community-focused reporter who builds trust and relationships with local audiences.
