Requisition ID: req59092 Job Title: WIOA Case Manager Intern (unpaid) Sector: Education Employment Category: Intern Employment Type: Part-Time Compensation: USD 0.00 - 0.00 Hourly Location: New York, NY RAI USA Work Arrangement: Job Description SCOPE OF WORK: The International Rescue Committee (IRC), works in the United States welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports them in their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. The WIOA Case Manager intern is an intern position to support the Adult Education Department with programs and referrals. As an intern, you will support IRC students enrolled in the online English Language classes to reach goals they set for themselves. Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program, the English Language classes, case management support, and career services at IRC will ensure that participants are connected to outside services. The intern will also assist in several administrative tasks related to WIOA grant and database management. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the field of case management and/or social service work with immigrants and refugees. RESPONSIBILITIES: In this position, the intern will support the Case Manager/Workforce Development Specialists with tasks related to social service, workforce, and legal referrals for clients enrolled in the Adult Education English language courses. The intern will create action plans, identify additional services needed, and monitor progress towards goals with individual students. · Assist Case Manager with a caseload of up to 128 students. · Conduct one-on-one meetings with clients to set SMART goals for employment or education needs. · Assist clients in developing resumes, cover letters, and preparing for interviews. · Give digital literacy workshops to clients based on their proficiency with technology. · Track client meetings and progress in case notes and spreadsheets. · Research referral opportunities in NYC. · Gain an understanding of IRC services to refer students to. · Communicate effectively with clients in person and via telephone. · Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy. · Ability to work with clients from multiple backgrounds with varying English skills. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Intern will learn how to effectively build partnerships with referral organizations such as certification programs, advanced ESL courses, and job trainings. 2. Intern will learn how to provide direct services to immigrant and refugee populations. 3. Intern will learn how to manage and record student data, meeting notes, and contact referrals. REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be based in the U.S.Interns must be based in US, must be a US citizen or have US work authorization, must be enrolled in post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within last 2 years. Ideal Qualifications · Bilingual ability preferred, preferably in Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari/Farsi, and/or Russian. · Strong research, writing, and editing skills · Interest in and familiarity with U.S. refugee and asylum policy and integration policies locally · Ability to multi-task and prioritize various tasks in a fast-paced work environment · Ability to work effectively and accurately with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet applications · Ability to work productively in a team environment as well as under minimal supervision, taking the initiative to ask questions as needed Requirements · Fluent in English, both spoken and written · Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week for full internship term Qualifications
