Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Wheel Loader Operator for our location in Muscatine, IA. The ideal candidate will have significant experience operating forklifts or front-end loaders, preferably in a sawmill or hardwood shop environment. This role involves handling raw materials such as trees and logs, which are processed into various products like railroad ties and construction materials. The position requires working independently at times while maintaining effective communication with team members to ensure smooth production flow. Attention to detail and reliability are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Operate loading equipment to move logs and lumber in a sawmill.Load and unload materials from trucks or containers, ensuring materials are undamaged.Collaborate with plant members to maintain an organized yard.Conduct routine inspections of equipment.

Essential Skills

1+ year of experience with forklifts or front-end loaders.Ability to operate various heavy machinery including excavators and dozers.Experience in machine operating, grinding, and woodworking.Basic understanding of blueprints and the manufacturing industry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

1+ year of experience with front-end or wheel loader attachments.Familiarity with log handling and lumber products.Knowledge of wood species for sorting is beneficial.

Work Environment

The work schedule is from 5am to 3:30pm, Monday to Thursday, and 6am to 12pm on Fridays. The dress code requires jeans or long pants, steel or composite boots, and hearing and eye protection. You will work in a fast-paced sawmill environment alongside approximately 20 employees, handling both indoor and outdoor conditions. The team values diversity and welcomes bilingual candidates.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Muscatine, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
