Job Title: Welding Engineer
Location: Doha, Qatar (with international missions as required)
Role Overview
The MP Welding Engineer will provide specialized expertise in welding engineering, metallurgy, and non-destructive testing (NDT) across multiple major offshore projects. This role ensures compliance with company technical standards, international codes, and best industry practices throughout all project phases, including FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, transportation, and offshore installation.
Key Responsibilities Technical & Engineering Support Develop and review project-specific material and welding specifications for line pipes, forgings, and induction bends in compliance with company standards. Prepare technical RFQs for material and welding scope for long-lead items (LLI). Validate welding matrices, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), welding books, production tests, and heat treatment processes. Lead Engineering Critical Assessments (ECA), including mechanical testing requirements, and propose optimizations considering engineering and AUT (Automatic Ultrasonic Testing) inputs. Quality Assurance & Compliance Ensure adherence to company Technical Referential, local regulations, and international standards. Review and approve welding and material documentation via company EDMS. Validate NDT procedures and method statements. Promote quality culture within projects and provide technical advice on welding and metallurgy. Inspection & Surveillance Participate in surveillance and inspection activities at contractor and vendor sites. Witness welding qualifications, welder performance tests, and laboratory testing. Assess welding personnel competency and performance. Project Interface & Coordination Attend contractor and critical vendor kick-off and pre-inspection meetings. Resolve technical queries, deviation requests, NCRs, and concession requests. Lead investigations of significant quality failures using Cause Tree Analysis (CTA). Conduct technical audits and qualification assessments of suppliers, contractors, and vendors. Reporting & Documentation Provide weekly and monthly status reports, including KPIs, to Head of Projects QA/QC. Issue lessons learned, quality feedback notices, and recommendations related to welding and metallurgy. Contribute to project close-out activities.
Context & Environment Major Projects involve offshore platform development, subsea pipeline installation, and debottlenecking activities across multiple international sites. EPC execution will primarily occur at contractor premises. Frequent worldwide missions, including offshore assignments, should be anticipated.
Qualifications & Experience Education: Master’s degree in Welding Engineering; ESSA / IWE / EWE certifications required. Experience: Minimum 15 years in a similar role. At least 10 years in topsides fabrication and subsea pipeline installation, including automatic welding processes. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of welding, materials, corrosion (including SSCC), and NDE. Proficiency in ECA and associated testing. Skills: Leadership and communication skills. Ability to work in complex, multicultural environments. Competence in MS Office and related software tools. Certifications: H2S OPITO and T-BOSIET training mandatory.
