Position Summary:

The Welder/Model Maker is responsible for TIG and Hand Laser Welding with experience in precision welding for medical devices and components. This effort includes, but is not limited to, GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and manual laser welding, as well as hand finishing of welds to meet stringent cosmetic and functional standards. This individual works with department managers and other model makers to ensure support product development efforts by assisting engineering and R&D teams in welding prototypes, providing feedback on manufacturability, and helping transition new products into production.

Essential Functions:

Performs precision TIG welding and manual laser welding on small, high-tolerance components used in medical devices (e.g., implants, catheter assemblies, surgical tools)Hand finish welds to meet visual, dimensional, and functional specifications using fine tools and polishing methodsSupports product development by welding prototypes, assisting with first article builds, and providing feedback on weld feasibility and process improvementsCollaborates closely with engineering and R&D teams during development and design transfer phasesSet up and operates manual laser welding systems and maintain accurate process documentationInterprets and works from engineering drawings, weld symbols, and quality specificationsConducts visual and dimensional inspections of welded componentsAssists with basic machine tool operations and secondary processes as neededAdheres to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policiesEnsures Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your roleRepresents the company in a professional manner and uphold the highest standards of ethical business practices and socially responsible conduct in all interactions with other employees, customers, suppliers, and other third parties

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; welding or technical certification preferred2+ years of TIG and/or hand laser welding experience in a high-precision or medical device manufacturing settingSkilled in welding thin-gauge materials (e.g., 0.010”–0.125”) such as stainless steel, titanium, nitinol, and aluminumProven ability to hand finish welds to high cosmetic and tolerance standardsExperience welding under microscope or magnificationStrong documentation skills and ability to follow SOPs accuratelyBasic machine tool experience (lathe, mill, drill press) is a plusExperience supporting product development or R&D teams is highly desirableAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively within a fast-paced environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAttention to detailSelf-starterAdvanced critical thinking and problems-solving skillsProficiency in using Microsoft Office products
