ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Bedford, NH office is looking for a Water Resources Scientist Intern to join our team for the summer of 2026.
Our Water Resources Team is comprised of both scientists and engineers who work throughout New Hampshire and New England. Our scientists focus on water quality investigations, stormwater regulatory compliance, and stormwater field inspection services. We work with both public and private clients in the municipal, institutional, energy, transportation, and real estate sectors.
Responsibilities
Perform field investigations including, but not limited to, construction site inspections, water quality sampling of lakes and streams, and stormwater system investigationsPrepare daily reports of field investigations documenting compliance statusConduct statistical and geospatial analysis of data using software programs such as R Studio and ArcGISProvide support for EPA NPDES regulatory compliance programs for construction, municipal, and industrial sources of stormwater dischargePrepare technical reports, charts, and figuresSupport the development of local, state, and federal permit applicationsSkills and Attributes
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsSelf-motivated with attention to detailAbility to solve problems and think criticallyTeam orientedStrong data and geospatial analytical skillsQualifications
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, data science, earth science, or a related fieldNo prior internship experience required, but previous internship experience is preferredValid driver’s license and ability to travel locally within New HampshireAbility to perform field work in adverse weather conditions over uneven terrainVHB does not provide housing for interns.
