The Vice President of Finance is a strategic leader, responsible for overseeing all financial functions of the organization, including: accounting, payroll, financial operations, internal controls, policies & procedures, insurance coverage, and contract review. The VP of Finance collaborates closely with executive leadership, including the VP of Development and the Board Finance Committee, to ensure the financial sustainability and integrity of the organization, enabling the delivery of its mission. Key Job Responsibilities Leadership + Establish, communicate, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for all financial management functions, ensuring appropriate internal controls and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices and regulatory standards. + Lead organizational commitment to ethical financial practices and integrity, internal controls and risk assessment, monitoring and remediation. + Participate in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives, operating model, and operational execution. + Serve as the primary staff liaison for the Board Finance Committee, supporting governance and oversight functions. + Mentor and develop finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This includes managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic. Financial Planning & Reporting + Develop and oversee budgets, forecasts, and financial reports, providing actionable insights to the CEO and leadership team. + Prepare monthly profit and loss and cash flow forecasts; analyze results and recommend strategies to optimize financial performance. + Lead the evaluation and implementation of financial systems, as applicable, including accounting software upgrades or replacements. + Coordinate with the auditors in the timely completion of the annual audits and financial reviews, ensuring timely and compliant filings of tax returns and 990s. + Assist in establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas, and selecting and engaging outside consultants/services (auditors, investment advisors). + Remain up to date on nonprofit accounting and audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations. Compliance & Risk Management + Manage internal controls, risk assessment, monitoring, and remediation processes. + Oversee insurance programs, including liability coverage. + Manage financial support received and resources, including investments and support of grant budgets in partnership with the Director of Grants. + Partner with leadership on real estate and contractual matters impacting finances. + Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as nonprofit accounting standards and grant requirements, including financial recordkeeping requirements. Resource & Investment Management + Oversee all organizational assets, including property, endowments, and liquid investments, ensuring prudent management aligned with organizational goals. + Collaborate with grant teams to prepare and monitor grant budgets, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and accurate reporting. + Manage relationships with financial partners such as banks, lenders, donors, and auditors. + Lead cash flow planning to maintain sufficient liquidity for operations, including investment and asset management. + Develop and maintain long-term financial plans and capital budgets supporting strategic growth initiatives. + Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives (e.g., opening new Clubs, asset acquisition, new service launches). + Manage the company’s real estate affairs together with the CEO and VP of Facilities & Safety. Strategic Partnership + Serve as a trusted business partner to the CEO and senior leadership, providing financial intelligence and strategic recommendations. + Contribute to organization-wide strategic planning and decision-making processes. Requirements + Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, MPA) or CPA preferred + A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including at least 3 years managing in a non-profit environment, or equivalent experience. + Knowledge of IRS regulations related to 501(c)(3) organizations. + Strong knowledge and experience of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, grant accounting, compliance, and reporting. + Demonstrated leadership and team development skills with the ability to mentor staff at various experience levels. + Superior written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial concepts to varied audiences; negotiation and conflict resolution skills. + Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. + Experience partnering with executive leadership and boards in financial governance roles. + Ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality across all levels of the organization. + Proven ability to manage complex budgets, forecasts, and diverse funding streams. + Proficiency in financial software and enterprise systems; experience leading finance system implementations is a plus. + Experience working with IT staff to manage finance and accounting software systems and packages is preferred. + Experience with capital campaigns, bond management, or investment oversight is preferred. Salary Description $130,000- $150,000
