Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Employee Relations and Labor Relations to lead and oversee the development, implementation, and management of proactive employee relations strategies, labor relations initiatives, and workplace policies. This role is critical in fostering a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment while ensuring compliance with applicable labor laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in labor and employment law, with a proven ability to navigate complex employee and labor relations issues.
The VP of Employee Relations and Labor Relations will report directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO) and will work closely with senior leadership, HR teams, and legal counsel to drive strategic initiatives that align with the company’s mission, values, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee RelationsDevelop and lead proactive employee relations strategies to foster a positive workplace culture, enhance employee engagement, and mitigate workplace conflicts.Oversee the creation, implementation, and communication of positive employee relations policies and programs.Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and HR teams on complex employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.Ensure consistent application of policies and practices across the organization, minimizing risk and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.Analyze employee relations trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions to address systemic issues.Ensure employee relations training and best practices are shared with managers and HR professionals.Labor RelationsLead the organization’s labor relations strategy, including collective bargaining, union negotiations, and contract administration.Ensure effective communication and collaboration with labor organizations.Develop and implement strategies to maintain positive labor-management relations and resolve disputes effectively.Ensure compliance with the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and other applicable labor laws.Provide insight to the organization in arbitration proceedings, labor disputes, and other legal or regulatory matters.Monitor labor law developments and provide guidance on labor relations risks and opportunities.Policy Development and ComplianceOversee the development and implementation of workplace policies that align with organizational goals and legal requirements.Ensure policies are clear, consistent, and effectively communicated to employees at all levels.Partner with legal counsel to ensure compliance with labor and employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, and state/local regulations.Conduct regular policy reviews and updates to reflect changes in the legal and regulatory landscape.Leadership and CollaborationLead and mentor a team of employee relations and labor relations professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.Collaborate with HR, legal, and business leaders to align employee and labor relations strategies with broader organizational goals.Act as a strategic partner to the executive team, providing insights and recommendations on workforce-related issues.Qualifications
Education and ExperienceMinimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in employee relations, labor relations, or human resources, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.Significant experience in unionized environments, including collective bargaining and contract administration.Proven track record of developing and implementing proactive employee relations and labor relations strategies.Skills and CompetenciesExceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility at all organizational levels.Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on developing and empowering others.Excited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed?
