VP Clinic Operations-Ancillary Services

JOB SUMMARY

VP Clinic Operations - Ancillary Services is responsible for planning, overseeing, and leading the  operations of clinic ancillary services for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH), which includes all clinic operating units, professional services, support functions, and services. Responsible for ensuring that BSWH clinics deliver high quality patient care and efficient services delivered in a cost-effective manner. Oversees and leads the development and implementation of clinic plans, policies, programs, and initiatives required to achieve financial, service, quality, regulatory, and community objectives. Leads operational activities to assess, measure, and evaluate current and proposed clinic programs, processes, and practices and implements improvements as necessary. Ensures the clinic operations are compliant with all applicable federal, state, local government laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards, and BSWH system-wide policies and controls. May represent the clinics or assigned operating area to external authorities or constituencies. Works closely with region President, clinical leadership, and the BSWH executive team to improve and grow operations of the clinics in accordance with overall BSWH strategies and objectives.

A region Vice President (VP) develops strategy and business plans for one or more business units. Business unit may include a level of smaller entity vice presidents (e.g. small hospitals, clinics, etc). Leads strategy execution, identifies resourcing needs, and provides guidance for significant tactical decisions. Focuses on current-year operations and participates in establishing multi-year strategies and business plans. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have a long-term negative effect on the success of the organization. Leads and directs a single business unit or region. Typically directs multiple levels of subordinate directors and/or managers covering varied disciplines and skill levels. Has managerial accountability for staffing and budgets for a large span of control (at least 2 managers/directors). Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments. Responsible for executing a portion of the business strategy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

1. Oversees operations for clinic ancillary services.
2. Develops and implements the short and long-term operational objectives which enables the highest quality of health care services, patient safety, and patient satisfaction for the communities served.
3. Leads initiatives and programs to improve operations and build consensus, alignment, and focus on operational priorities and objectives that are in line with BSWH business objectives.
4. Oversees financial management of operations including costs, business performance, budget approvals, variance reviews, and cost benefit analysis for new programs and services.
5. Leads the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, processes, and best practices for assigned facilities and services. 
6. Implements controls for effective and efficient utilization of organizational and financial resources and monitoring a system of accountability, operational dashboards, and metrics for the assigned area. 
7. Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements and standards.
8. Oversees operational activities focused on improving metrics related to the quality of care, patient safety, and patient experience, including evaluation of patient satisfaction scores and the development of appropriate actions plans.
9. Identifies and resolves operational problems and leads the implementation of solutions and change necessary to continuously improve operations.
10. Collaborates with community leaders, physicians, and other healthcare organizations as appropriate to assess community healthcare needs, promote healthcare services, build a positive image for BSWH.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

1. Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
2. 5+ years of experience in healthcare operations management. 10+ years of experience preferred.
3. 1+ years of leadership experience preferred. 5+ years of experience preferred.
4. Experience as senior operations leader in a large, multi-site health care system preferred.
5. Experience with multi-specialty group practice in an integrated setting preferred.
6. Comprehensive knowledge of clinic operations, including finance, quality, and physician relations.
7. Strong financial acumen and skilled at applying operational levers within a healthcare facility to improve business results.
8. Ability to maintain strong working relationships with medical staff, including physicians, nursing, and clinical departments.
9. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience delivering presentations to executive leadership, operating boards, and community leaders.
