Visiting Nurse Services (Hospice) Intern

The AVN Hospice Internship provides students with a comprehensive, hands‑on learning experience across the full continuum of hospice care. Interns gain meaningful exposure by shadowing an interdisciplinary team—including our Hospice Medical Director, Registered Nurses, Medical Social Workers, Chaplain, Bereavement Coordinator, and Volunteer staff. Students also participate in weekly Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to observe collaborative, patient‑centered care in action.

Key Responsibilities

Shadow clinical and non‑clinical members of the hospice interdisciplinary team across hospitals, patient homes, and nursing facilities. Receive Epic training and practice basic documentation skills under staff guidance. Support day‑to‑day operations by assisting with administrative tasks, phone calls, and data entry. Collaborate with team members to learn about care planning, bereavement support, and communication with patients and families. Participate in Camp Clover, the Children’s Grief and Bereavement Camp, by assisting with registration, logistics, volunteer coordination, and materials preparation. Serve as a camp counselor at Camp Clover, fully engaging in activities and providing support to grieving children.
