Summary/Objective:
The Vice President of Construction will oversee project management staff, ensure consistent project delivery standards, support business development efforts, and collaborate closely with executive leadership to support the company’s growth. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in commercial construction management, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of delivering profitable projects while maintaining exceptional client relationships.
Essential Functions:

Provide executive leadership and oversight for all construction operations including project management, field operations, scheduling, safety, and quality control.Establish and enforce construction management standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent project delivery across the organization.Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of all commercial construction projects including ground-up developments, tenant improvements, and renovations.Manage and mentor project managers, superintendents, and other construction staff to ensure professional development, accountability, and high performance.Review and approve project budgets, schedules, contracts, and major subcontractor agreements.Monitor project financial performance including budgets, cost forecasting, and profitability across all active projects.Work closely with the executive team to align construction operations with company growth strategies and financial goals.Collaborate with estimating and preconstruction teams to support accurate project pricing, scope development, and project planning.Assist with client development, strategic partnerships, and business development initiatives to support company growth.Represent Midwest Construction Group in key client meetings, subcontractor negotiations, and project planning discussions.Ensure subcontractor compliance and enforce jobsite safety standards in accordance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.Implement systems and reporting tools to maintain clear visibility into project progress, financial performance, and operational metrics.Oversee project documentation and reporting including schedules, change orders, cost tracking, progress reporting, and project closeout.Promote a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the construction team.
Position RequirementsExtensive knowledge of commercial construction methods including site work, concrete, masonry, steel, interiors, and MEP systems.Strong leadership and team development capabilities.Deep understanding of project financial management including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and subcontractor management.Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project scheduling, and risk management.Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and industry best practices.Knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and construction compliance requirements.
Work Environment/Travel
The responsibilities of this position involve physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. This position is required to travel to project sites, estimated 40-60% of the time.
Preferred Education and Experience15+ years of commercial construction experience, including significant leadership responsibility.Prior experience in a Director, Senior Project Executive, or Vice President level construction leadership role preferred.B.S. degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.Proven ability to lead multiple project teams while maintaining high levels of project profitability and client satisfaction.Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills (verbal and written).Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, owners, and consultants on complex commercial construction projects.Strong organizational and decision-making abilities in fast-paced environments.Valid driver’s license with no more than two moving violations or DUI within the past 7 years.
