We are seeking a strategic, creative, and experienced executive to join our team as Vice President, Unscripted to oversee the ABC Entertainment and Hulu Original Unscripted teams. This role is instrumental in shaping the future of our unscripted programming, with a strong emphasis on identifying, developing, and overseeing compelling Formats that align with our creative vision and brand identity.
Primary Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate compelling external Formats for ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, working closely with external producers and key partners
Explore and flag international Formats of interest, staying ahead of global trends and opportunities
Develop original Formats internally and partner with the Unscripted team to ensure new and existing projects are creatively and strategically positioned for success
Oversee the full development cycle of Formats from pitch through execution, ensuring creative integrity and alignment with brand standards
Provide creative guidance throughout the process, including key casting decisions and format execution
Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams (e.g., Scheduling, Business Affairs, PR, Marketing) to optimize content strategy and rollout
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with producers, directors, talent, and industry professionals to ensure a robust pipeline of ideas and partnerships
Represent the department in internal meetings and cross-functional initiatives, and manage special projects as needed
Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages idea generation and creative excellence
Key Qualifications
10+ years of experience demonstrating success in developing unscripted series, with a strong emphasis on Formats
Deep understanding of the unscripted television development process from concept to execution
Strong knowledge of both U.S. and international Format trends and opportunities
Established relationships with production companies, agents, talent, and other key industry stakeholders
Proven creative instincts and development skills, with the ability to self-generate and evaluate original programming ideas
Strategic thinker with leadership experience and the ability to guide teams through creative and operational challenges
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred
The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $211,314.00 to $283,470.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
