Vice President, Software Engineering

As Vice President, Software Engineering for Tennis Channel’s Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) streaming service, you will lead the creation of a new engineering organization from the ground up. This includes building a high-performing team of software engineers and designing all development processes, tools, and systems from scratch. You will define and execute the technical strategy behind the company’s flagship streaming platform, which integrates Tennis Channel’s 24/7 linear network, live/on-demand matches, original programming, and advanced features across iOS, Android, Connected TVs (e.g., Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV), and web platforms. AI and streaming innovation will be central to delivering a seamless, personalized fan experience.
**Key Responsibilities**
**1. Engineering Leadership & Team Building**
+ Recruit, lead, and mentor a small team of software engineers, establishing a strong engineering culture focused on innovation, accountability, and collaboration.
+ Design and implement all engineering processes, development workflows, and tooling from the ground up.
+ Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with third-party development partners.
**2. End-to-End Systems Architecture**
+ Architect and oversee the development of a unified tech stack supporting multi-platform apps (iOS, Android, CTV, web), ensuring scalability, security, and performance optimization.
+ Design integrations for CRM (e.g., Salesforce), authentication (MVPD, SSO), payment gateways (subscription billing, in-app purchases), video streaming (live/on-demand), and CDP (audience segmentation, analytics).
+ Guide the adoption of AI-driven personalization, recommendation engines, and real-time data visualization tools.
**3. Cross-Functional Collaboration**
+ Partner with product, data, and marketing teams to align engineering efforts with business goals, including subscriber growth, retention, and monetization.
+ Work closely with infrastructure teams to integrate AWS/GCP cloud services, DevOps pipelines, and containerized workflows (e.g., Kubernetes).
**4. Innovation & Technical Strategy**
+ Evaluate and implement emerging technologies in AI, streaming, and data analytics to enhance user engagement and operational efficiency.
+ Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and implement robust security protocols for user data and payment systems.
**5. Documentation & Process Optimization**
+ Develop detailed architecture blueprints, API specifications, and system documentation.
+ Establish streamlined workflows for CI/CD, automated testing, and observability (monitoring, logging, alerting).
**6. Stakeholder Engagement**
+ Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ Support Tennis Channel’s global expansion by designing systems adaptable to international markets.
**Required Skills & Qualifications**
+ 8+ years in engineering roles, with 3+ years in a leadership capacity, preferably in DTC/OTT streaming
+ Proven ability to build and lead engineering teams from scratch
+ Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
+ Proficiency in cloud-native architectures (AWS, Google Cloud), microservices, and API design (REST/gRPC)
+ Hands-on experience with video streaming technologies (HLS/DASH, DRM, CDN optimization) and OTT platforms
+ Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce), payment gateways (Stripe, Braintree), and CDP tools (Segment, mParticle)
+ Strong knowledge of DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC, Docker/Kubernetes)
+ Experience implementing AI/ML solutions in consumer-facing applications
+ Understanding of sports media ecosystems, ad-tech integrations, and subscriber lifecycle management
+ Passion for tennis and familiarity with Tennis Channel’s content portfolio (ATP, WTA, Grand Slams)
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience with real-time data visualization tools for live sports
+ Knowledge of dynamic ad insertion (DAI) and programmatic advertising workflows
+ Prior work in scaling DTC platforms to 1M+ subscribers
+ Background in AI-driven personalization or recommendation systems

The base salary compensation range for this role is $280,000 to $320,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates’ relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.
