Job Description
Role Overview
The Vice President - Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting and reporting process for Brookfield’s non-traded REIT. The role will offer the opportunity to work on a dynamic and nascent product, with direct exposure to members of senior management.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer for the REIT, the Controller will oversee all aspects of public company financial reporting, including regulatory filings, annual audit, and compliance with US GAAP. The Controller will also be responsible for managing the monthly financial reporting close process and will work closely with Brookfield’s internal fund accounting team and external fund administrator. The Controller will be expected to design and implement reporting processes and controls that are efficient and scalable. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a strong accounting and SEC reporting background, as well as someone who can work in a collaborative environment with regular interaction with senior management, Brookfield affiliates, and third-party vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee preparation and review of consolidated, historical cost US GAAP financial statements and MD&A
Oversee monthly close process and fair value NAV/unit price calculations for multiple share classes
Manage the external audit process with Big 4 firm
Ensure internal controls over financial reporting are designed and operating effectively
Oversee and manage Brookfield’s internal fund accounting team (currently team of 4)
Manage relationship with third-party fund administrator and transfer agent
Oversee SEC and regulatory filings
Analyze fund financial data and prepare financial statement analysis for senior management, including FFO/AFFO analysis
Assist in the preparation and review of investor reporting and marketing materials
Train and manage a team as the fund grows
Research and document US GAAP treatment for complex transactions, including Delaware Statutory Trusts (DSTs)
Technical Skills/Requirements
7-10 years of experience, with a mix of public/private accounting strongly preferred; real estate accounting/finance preferred
Experience with SEC filing requirements
Strong knowledge of US GAAP
Ability to design financial processes and controls
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal
Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast paced and team-oriented environment, while managing numerous priorities and deadlines
Attention to detail and strong review skills
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Salary Range: $200,000 - $230,000
Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education, and designation
