Vice President, Clinical Network Development & Affiliations
What We Offer The Vice President of Clinical Network Development and Affiliations provide strategic and operational leadership for the growth, performance, and integration of NHE provider affiliation capabilities and advance Novant Health’s strategic priorities by supporting affiliated large practices. This executive is responsible for identifying, sourcing, structuring, and integrating physician alignment opportunities—including acquisitions, affiliations, and partnerships—that advance the organization’s strategic objectives. The VP serves as the primary executive liaison between the system and its large affiliated or employed physician groups—fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence in patient-centered care. What You'll Do + + Work closely with the SVP Chief Clinical Strategy Officer and other System Physician Executives to develop processes and functions to support collaboration with community provider partnerships across all markets of Novant Health. + Areas of focus should include: + Setting enterprise-level strategy for NHE provider affiliations, including developing new models and strategies for private practices to engage and affiliate with NHE and defining key Markets and Institutes to prioritize for affiliations + Develop and manage a pipeline of physician group opportunities, including direct outreach, relationship cultivation, and market intelligence gathering. + Partner with senior leadership, legal, and finance teams to evaluate, structure, and negotiate deals involving practice acquisitions, joint ventures, and other affiliation models. + Defining structure and models for true community private practice relationships + Developing negotiation team and contract template with Novant Health Legal and other system executives in order to ensure appropriate alignment with traditional employment models within NHMG. + Building and maintaining Customer Relationship Management (CRM) function to curate, track and report all discussions with private practices, regularly reporting out progress to NHE, market leadership and other Novant Health executives + Conducting financial modeling and supporting operational integration model for private practice MSO services + Creating affiliation approach that takes into account all NHE markets, including multi-state alignment with strategic initiatives + Collaborating with key leaders (Market Presidents, Market COOs, Institute Leadership) at critical junctures in the affiliation process to help cultivate relationships, convert potential affiliates, and integrate newly acquired practices into NHMG + Develop and implement strategies to expand and enhance the network of large independent physician practices, aligning with the goals of the Specialty Institutes, CHAWI, and Novant Health as a whole; key activities include: + Providing strategic guidance and operational support to large practice groups to support growth and development aligned with Novant Health’s long-term priorities + Overseeing large practice network, including managing provider contracts, credentialing, and privileging processes + Building and sustaining strong relationships with independent physician practices, fostering collaboration, engagement, and alignment with organizational objectives + Overseeing budgets, resource allocation, and financial performance of large practices, ensuring alignment with the Novant Health’s financial goals + Ensuring effective coordination with NHE MSO services, providing large practices with the resources, tools, and capabilities they need to execute on their strategic priorities + Implementing performance metrics and quality improvement initiatives across the large practice network to drive outcomes, patient satisfaction, and value-based care success + Set enterprise strategy for independent physician engagement and partner with Market Leaders and clinical leaders (e.g., COO NHE Ambulatory & President, Novant Health Specialty Institutes, President, Novant Health Primary Care Services, SVP Chief Clinical Strategy Officer, System Physician Executives) to develop, prioritize, and deploy physician engagement tactics across existing geographies, including ongoing tracking and relationship management + Define and lead physician engagement strategies outside of Novant Health’s core geographies in partnership with NHE leaders and Novant Health’s broader leadership What We're Looking For + Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Graduate Degree, preferred. MBA, MHA preferred + Experience: 10+ Extensive experience in strategic planning, leading and overseeing practice operations, provider affiliations or network services, preferably in a large medical group or health system, required. + Additional Skills (required): + Demonstrated success leading large, multi-specialty physician enterprises or affiliation programs in a matrixed health system environment + Ability to identify, source and cultivate physician practice affiliation and acquisition opportunities consistent with the organization’s mission, market strategy, and growth priorities + Proven ability to cultivate strong physician relationships and drive alignment initiatives. + Strategic and analytical thinker with a deep understanding of healthcare market dynamics and physician enterprise operations + Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills + Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams + Commitment to culture, collaboration, and the organization’s mission and values + Demonstrated track record of overseeing teams that achieve operational and financial results, as well as delivering on patient satisfaction and a remarkable patient experience + Proven experience in driving effective physician engagement to improve operational, clinical, and financial performance, as well as transitions to value-based payment models + Extensive knowledge and experience with requirements of key regulatory agencies and accreditation standards + Operates with a start-up mentality and brings initiative, resourcefulness, and analytical rigor + Additional Skills/(preferred) + Lead the design and execution of strategies to grow and retain large physician practices, supporting system goals for access, quality, and financial performance. + Identify and pursue new physician alignment opportunities—including affiliations, acquisitions, and partnerships—with a focus on mission fit and strategic value. + Partner with senior leadership to evaluate market trends and develop initiatives that strengthen the organization’s competitive position and physician enterprise footprint. + Oversee the onboarding, operational integration, and performance management of large physician groups joining the system. + Ensure practices have the tools, resources, and infrastructure necessary to achieve operational excellence and clinical quality goals. + Collaborate with shared services (finance, HR, IT, revenue cycle, marketing) to streamline processes and support efficient practice operations. + Drive initiatives to enhance physician satisfaction, engagement, and retention. + Serve as a key relationship manager and strategic advisor for physician leaders, medical groups, and executive partners. + Build trust and alignment with physicians through transparent communication, data-driven insights, and shared governance. + Lead outreach and partnership development efforts with independent and affiliated physician organizations to strengthen referral alignment and network integration. + Partner with operations and finance teams to establish budgets, productivity benchmarks, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for practice support services. + Monitor performance and implement improvement initiatives to ensure sustained operational, clinical, and financial results. + Develop business cases and ROI analyses for new affiliation or expansion opportunities.
