Vice President, and Chief Compliance Officer

The Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer (VP/CCO) provides strategic leadership for the organization’s compliance and privacy programs, ensuring adherence to all applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and ethical standards. Reporting to executive leadership and serving the Board of Trustees, the VP/CCO fosters a culture of integrity and accountability across the organization. This role oversees compliance operations, risk mitigation, policy governance, staff training, regulatory monitoring, and incident response, while guiding the organization through a rapidly evolving healthcare regulatory landscape.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Compliance Program Leadership
Designs, implements, and maintains a robust, organization-wide compliance program.
Regularly assesses program effectiveness and makes enhancements.
Leadership and Culture
Fosters a culture of compliance, transparency, and ethical behavior.
Leads and mentors the compliance team, promoting professional development and collaboration.
Incorporates and demonstrates ProMedica’s Values and Vision in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Regulatory Compliance Oversight
Ensure compliance with federal and state healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, EMTALA).
Monitors regulatory changes and assess organizational impact.
Policy and Procedure Governance
Oversees the organization’s policy management system and ensure timely review and updates of policies and procedures.
Training and Education
Oversees compliance training programs for all levels of staff.
Promotes awareness of compliance responsibilities and ethical conduct.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
Oversee the compliance risk assessment and compliance audits to identify and address compliance vulnerabilities.
Collaborates with internal stakeholders to implement corrective action plans.
Incident Management and Investigations
Oversees the intake, investigation, and resolution of compliance concerns and reports.
Ensures timely investigation, documentation, root cause analysis, and remediation.
Reporting and Communication
Provides regular updates to Compliance Committee, Compliance Council, executive leadership, and Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board on compliance activities, risks, and outcomes.
Maintains open lines of communication with staff and leadership regarding compliance matters.
Builds and maintains relationships with key system leaders crucial to the organization's success.
Privacy and Data Protection
Develops, implements, and maintains the organization’s privacy program in compliance with HIPAA and other applicable privacy laws and regulations.
Collaborates with IT and legal teams to ensure data privacy and security compliance.
Supports breach response and notification processes.
Master’s degree Healthcare Administration, Law, Business Administration, or a related field. Seven to ten years of experience in healthcare corporate compliance with at least three to five years in a leadership role.
Must have superior leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with an ability to build trust and credibility to enable common understanding of goals and objectives.
Must possess strong analytical skills to interpret complex regulations, assess organizational risk, evaluate policy effectiveness, analyze compliance data, lead investigations, and drive strategic improvements with the goal of promoting a culture of accountability and integrity throughout the organization.
Must have a strong ethical foundation and the ability to lead with integrity, impartiality, and fairness.
Must be able to influence others, build relationships, and champion ethical practices within the organization.
Must have ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and sound judgment.
Computer proficiency required including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with enterprise risk management and quality improvement processes.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
Experience with chart review/analysis.
Experience performing and analyzing regulatory research.
Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and/or Certified in Health Privacy Compliance (CHPC) Certified, LEAN, and/or Six Sigma.
