Location: VCA Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital
Position: Full-Time
Pay Range: $17.40 - $23.50 per hour

About Us

VCA Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital is a 3-doctor general practice caring for dogs, cats, and exotic pets. We are looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This role supports veterinarians and technicians in delivering high-quality care and exceptional service to our patients and their owners.

Experience in veterinary care is helpful but not required. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about animal health and wellness who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and surgeries

Safely restrain animals during procedures

Prepare and clean exam rooms and surgical areas (including sterilizing equipment and setting up supplies)

Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed

Monitor and record vital signs and animal behavior

Administer medications under veterinarian supervision

Maintain accurate patient records and update charts

Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling and managing inventory

Communicate clearly and respectfully with pet owners

Keep all clinic areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Previous veterinary or animal care experience preferred

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team

Basic skills in animal handling and restraint

Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Genuine passion for animal care and welfare

Work Schedule

5 days per week, 8-hour shifts
