Veterinary Assistant: Radiation Oncology

VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists is expanding its Radiation Oncology Service and is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the team!  

Our Radiation Oncology Service:

At VCA NWVS Pet CancerCare Center, our multidisciplinary oncology team designs an individualized treatment plan for each pet patient using the most advanced and effective treatments available—much like those used in human medicine. We are committed to the future of radiation therapy for our patients. We provide definitive intent and palliative intent radiation treatments as well as quality of life monitoring.

Duties of our Veterinary Assistant will include, but are not limited to:

Assist any hospital team as neededBe familiar with the proper way to wrap surgical packs, extra instruments, and other materials for sterilizationBe familiar with the use of the autoclave, gas sterilizer, and ultrasonic cleaner and perform all routine maintenance with communication and support from Facility Manager and PurchaserInform the Purchaser and Facility Manager of any broken or damaged equipment efficientlyBe certified or available to become certified as an ETO gas sterilizer operatorCommunicate with Facility Manager and Purchaser proactively and effectively for appropriate inventory needsTake routine inventory of stock and add necessary items to the ‘Want List’Maintain pack, extra-instrument, and equipment listsOrder necessary hardware per the instruction of the Leadership TeamClean all surfaces, lights, table, table tray, vacuum and mop floorRadiology – pick up after any procedures, keep protective gear hung up and cleanedLearn the veterinary software and assist Specialists and teams with accessing informationCheck to see that all animals have food and water (unless medically withheld), and are cleanClean cages and runs during the day as neededAttend staff meetings and contribute constructive feedback

Compensation: Pay range is $22-25 / hour. Compensation is negotiable based on education and experience.

Schedule: Full-time opportunity, Monday- Friday: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Requirements:

1+ years of Veterinary Assistant experience Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds repeatedly throughout the day Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedlyMust be able to stand for a long of period of timeMust be able to work under stressful conditions and work efficiently and effectively under those conditionsMust be able to respond quickly to a variety of medical situations (with training)
