This role ensures optimal performance, minimizes downtime, and contributes to the overall efficiency and quality of the packaging line. The Technician acts as a primary technical resource for operators and actively participates in continuous improvement initiatives. **Position Responsibilities:** Machine Setup & Optimization: + Performs complex changeovers, including tooling and format changes, on various VFFS machines with minimal supervision. + Optimizes machine settings (e.g., heat seal parameters, tension, timing, jaw pressure, pull belt settings) to achieve maximum efficiency, quality, and consistent bag integrity for diverse products and film types. + Calibrates and adjusts integrated equipment such as multi-head weighers, auger fillers, checkweighers, metal detectors, and coding systems to ensure synchronized operation. Troubleshooting & Repair: + Diagnoses and resolves complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on VFFS machines and auxiliary equipment. + Utilizes schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals to identify root causes of malfunctions. + Repairs or replaces worn or faulty components, including motors, sensors, PLCs, drives, and other precision parts. + Performs welding, fabrication, or machining as needed for repairs or custom adjustments (if applicable skills are possessed). Preventative Maintenance (PM): + Develops and executes comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules for VFFS equipment to proactively identify and address potential issues. + Conducts routine inspections, lubrication, and cleaning of machine components. + Recommends and implements machine upgrades or modifications to improve reliability and performance. Quality Assurance: + Conducts in-depth quality inspections on finished bags, analyzing seal strength, integrity, and overall bag aesthetics. + Works collaboratively with Quality Control to address and resolve recurring quality deviations related to packaging. Documentation & Training: + Maintains accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and part replacements. + Creates and updates standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for VFFS operation and maintenance. + Trains and mentors VFFS Operators on proper machine operation, basic troubleshooting, and preventative measures. Safety & Compliance: + Adheres to all company safety policies and procedures, including strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. + Ensures all machine guarding and safety devices are in proper working order. + Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other relevant industry regulations. Continuous Improvement: + Participates in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to enhance machine efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production processes. + Identifies opportunities for process improvements and presents solutions to management.
