Posting Details Working Title VA School Certifying Official Position Number 01424A Department MILITARY CONNECTION CTR Location Norfolk, VA Type of Position Classified Type of Job Full Time EEO Category C Technicians Job Description To serve as one of ODU’s School Certifying Officials by reviewing claims for Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits. We serve all military affiliated students here at ODU using one of the many VA educational benefits available. We do this by submitting certifications/verifications through the Enrollment Manager portal on a regular basis, both pre- and post-registration. To assist students with questions related to VA benefits, in-person, over the phone, and via email. Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities + Working knowledge of Veterans Affairs Education Benefits. + Effective verbal and written communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain policy. + Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, work independently, investigate potential discrepancies, and diplomatically communicate to the military affiliated student. + Demonstrated ability to use Excel and perform mathematical calculations. + Considerable knowledge of customer service techniques. Special licenses, registration or certification NONE Education or training NONE Level and type of experience Basic experience in being attentive to detail, to include auditing records, performing basic mathematical calculations, and problem solving. Basic experience interpreting, explaining, and applying policy. Basic experience prioritizing work from multiple sources using time management skills and making decisions independently. Basic experience with Microsoft Excel, Banner, Veterans Administration Enrollment Manager System, Tungsten, and other systems. Considerable experience in providing customer service. Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification) Some experience with Banner or similar student information or records system. Some experience querying data. Some experience documenting processes and training others. Some experience working with military-affiliated persons. Possess Department of Veteran’s Affairs School Certifying Official Training or complete training with 60 days of hire. Considerable experience in providing customer service to veterans and military-affiliated persons. Conditions of Employment This is a on-campus based position in Norfolk, VA with traditional work hours. Some nights and weekend may be needed.
