GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Plant Operations Manager and the general supervision of the Director of Plant Operations, Utility Workers are responsible various duties in and around the hospital site in order to maintain a safe and efficient hospital environment. The person will also be required to operate tools, vehicles and equipment for jobs including: snow removal, maintenance, hospital labor and providing assistance to other workers as required.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
1. Assigned duties include maintenance of hospital along with any peripheral duties necessary for specific job completion.
2. Responsible for operating computer, logging work request using a hospital maintenance program.
3. Responsible for initiating special requests for tools and stock items as needed.
4. Responsible for initiating maintenance requests when a problem arises.
5. Responsible for seeing that work requests are completed in a timely manner.
6. Attends various meetings, as assigned.
7. Serves on various Emergency Preparedness teams as defined by hospital policy.
8. Maintains corrective/preventative maintenance records for assigned equipment.
9. Hospital service and minor repairs.
10. Removes outside trash from cans and parking lots at a weekly minimum.
11. Occasional assists with weed removal and general landscape clean up.
12. Occasional snow removal assisting with maintaining entrances and exits to the buildings.
13. Performs other related duties as requested.
14. Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the customers served in performance of job duties.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. Corrects or resolves Life Safety deficiencies within 24 hours of receipt of problem.
2. Meets timelines for Medical Center projects.
3. Assists and apprises Manager on all requests and projects as requested.
4. Maintains certifications as applicable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ability to read and understand basic blueprints.
2. Ability to consistently meet departmental work schedule as designated.
3. Ability to communicate in a pleasant, positive and effective manner with staff, customers, visitors and all levels of Hospital management.
4. Emergency Management Response Team member.
5. High School Diploma or GED.
6. Is able to physically complete all of the tasks assigned to the position on a regular basis, including but not limited to excessive lifting, working in extreme cold or extreme hot weather, and being able to complete outside winter work, including snow shoveling.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Work experience in building field or in maintenance
2. Three years related experience within a hospital / health care setting.
