Job Description
As a Utility Locator Technician, you will be responsible for learning the operation of utility locating and designating equipment. This includes the use of tools and equipment for utility investigations and performing various tasks under the guidance of senior field staff.
ResponsibilitiesLearn the operation of SUE utility locating and designating equipment, including pipe and cable locators and non-destructive vacuum excavation.Use tools and equipment such as jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose, air lance, and hand tools for utility investigations.Drive commercial motor vehicles without requiring a CDL license.Complete daily logs of work performed, which includes simple mathematics.Perform daily basic vehicle maintenance.Set up and maintain traffic operations safely under direct supervision of senior field staff.Assist with survey and data collection tasks, supporting overall crew activities.Perform daily routine maintenance of equipment.Essential SkillsSubsurface utility engineeringSurveyVacuum operationsUnderstanding of underground utilitiesExperience in the utility industryAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDValid driver's license with good driving recordAbility to pass a pre-employment physical (U.S. only)Ability to obtain a DOT medical card for CMV operation (U.S. only)Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical movements necessary to operate heavy tools and equipmentAbility to work outdoors in all climatesWillingness to travel up to 50% of the time, by company vehicle or commercial airline, for up to 2-week continuous staysGood oral communication skills and attention to detailOSHA Safety certifications are a plusPrior utility-related experience is a plusBasic understanding of Highway/Utility plans is a plus, but not requiredWork Environment
This role requires travel, including day trips and overnight stays. You will work outdoors in various climates and engage in physical tasks. While on-site, you will use specialized equipment and tools to complete your duties. The position demands flexibility and the ability to travel up to 50% of the time, sometimes requiring continuous stays of up to two weeks.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
