Utilities Engineer
Job Description Primary Roles and Responsibilities

Design and develop utility infrastructure projects in support of manufacturing and operational needs.

Conduct feasibility studies, technical evaluations, and cost estimates to support project planning and execution.

Demonstrate strong understanding of critical utility systems and operations, including chilled water, wastewater treatment, clean utilities, and steam, to support effective equipment selection and installation strategies.

Ensure full compliance with applicable safety standards, environmental requirements, and government regulations.

Perform regular inspections and support maintenance activities to ensure reliable and efficient operation of utility systems.

Oversee the construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up of utility systems, ensuring adherence to approved schedules, budgets, and quality standards.

Collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies to support successful project delivery.

Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve technical issues within utility systems to minimize downtime and operational risk.

Prepare and maintain technical reports, specifications, drawings, and project documentation.

Review and approve engineering designs, construction plans, and technical drawings.

Estimate project schedules, resource requirements, and capital and operating costs.

Provide technical guidance on equipment and process selection to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions.

Support customer and stakeholder needs by addressing service issues and ensuring satisfaction.

Supervise, mentor, and provide technical support to junior engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility engineering, with a strong focus on system design and project execution.

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements governing utility systems.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting aggressive timelines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience performing detailed technical evaluations of utility systems.

Experience supporting projects within regulated manufacturing environments, preferably the pharmaceutical sector.

Additional Preferences

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Experience with project management, cost control, and budgeting.

Knowledge of environmental compliance and regulatory frameworks.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.

Solid technical writing skills, including preparation of engineering reports and specifications.

High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., GMARS, MXES, or equivalent platforms).

Familiarity with SCADA systems and utility monitoring technologies.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
