Air Swift
Airswift is searching for a Lab Technician to work near Ames, IA on a long-term assignment.
Summary:
The purpose of this position is to perform laboratory analyses that support the production, sale, and distribution of renewable products. The position involves preparing and analyzing samples using wet chemistry techniques, elemental and combustion methods, and advanced analytical instrumentation (e.g., ICP-OES and GC). All work is performed with a strong emphasis on safety, data integrity, and timely delivery of high-quality results.
Job Responsibilities:
Laboratory Testing (80%):
-Safely perform standard and nonstandard analytical testing using wet chemistry, combustion/ elemental methods, and gas chromatography (GC) sample preparation and analysis.
-Execute all phases of sample testing, including sample receipt and check-in, preparation, analysis, data entry, result retrieval, and proper sample disposal.
-Operate and monitor laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure reliable and compliant performance with the lab quality program.
-Review, interpret, and validate analytical data using quality control and statistical tools; ensure data integrity prior to submission to and reporting to approved databases.
-Monitor instrument performance in alignment with company's Statistical Quality Control (SQC) program and troubleshoot issues as needed.
-Communicate analytical results and technical information clearly and professionally with supervisors, peers, and customers; prepare reports when required.
Laboratory Upkeep and Maintenance (10%):
-Monitor laboratory inventory (including chemicals, supplies, and gases) and initiate orders to ensure uninterrupted operations.
-Manage laboratory waste, including monitoring levels and transferring waste to final containers in accordance with procedures.
-Perform routine cleaning and organization of laboratory workspaces.
-Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and performance checks of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
Documentation, Safety, and Records Management (10%):
-Comply with all laboratory safety and enterprise Operational Excellence standards and contribute to continuous improvement of safety practices.
-Record experimental methods, data, and analyses in laboratory notebooks and approved electronic systems (e.g., spreadsheets and databases).
-Prepare and maintain technical documents, including SOPs, work instructions, technical reports, and presentations.
-Ensure confidentiality and proper stewardship of customer, business, and analytical data.

Qualifications/Skills:
• 1+ years of relevant analytical laboratory experience including wet chemistry, gas chromatography, elemental analysis, and quality control.
• Proficient in MS Apps (SharePoint, Excel, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Interest in renewable fuels, preferred
Education:
• 4-year Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or another STEM-related field
