Job Overview:
Attend nursing station and perform clerical duties, reception duties, and requisition supplies, equipment and services as directed.

Creates and promotes an environment conducive to teamwork and performance improvementAttends meetings and departmental programs as requestedParticipates in inter and intra departmental activitiesParticipates actively in meetings and projects to improve quality of serviceParticipates in problem solving and supports initiation of changes that enhance patient care/unit function as requestedDemonstrates flexibility of assignmentsContributes to a culture of excellence by demonstrating self-motivation, adaptability, and reliabilityUtilizes the computer, printer, fax machine, and other supplies in a manner that achieves high productivity, cost effectiveness, and waste reductionProcesses patient charges appropriate to the unitAssists with the maintenance and care of equipment and supplies.Initiates maintenance requisitions for the necessary repairs on the unitPromotes a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for the patients, families, and co-workersArranges follow-up appointments as ordered by the physicianCalls other units for readiness of bed prior to patient transferArranges transportation of patient to other health care facilities in collaboration with the Charge Nurse / Nurse ManagerEnsures that all necessary paperwork is completed and transferred with the patientDemonstrates the ability to use the clinical information system with minimal assistanceDemonstrates knowledge of the hospital s accepted abbreviations and medical terminologyAccurately transcribes orders from the physician order form to the Clinical Information SystemFiles computerized printouts of transcribed orders for RN verificationSigns off orders upon completion of all transcriptions.Notifies the Registered Nurse to verify the accuracy of all transcriptionsAssures that all physician orders for medication have been faxed to the pharmacyIdentifies STAT orders as a priority and transcribes immediatelyNotifies Registered Nurse of STAT ordersCalls consultations as per physician s orders if not done so already by the physician.Maintains knowledge of the use of forms and paper requisitions in case of computer downtime.Files admission, discharge, and transfer medical records in correct sequencePerforms the clerical activities associated with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including copying medical records when the Medical Records Department is closed.Ensures that all forms in patient s medical record are labeled with the correct patient identification.Review discharge patient records for completeness and communicates deficiencies to Charge Nurse/Nurse ManagerActs as a resource person for computer order entryPrepares patient charts using all necessary formsFiles diagnostic results and patient record reports on a timely basis, removing duplicate copiesCondenses patient records according to the medical record policy and procedurePlaces completed discharge chart in appropriate area for messenger pick-upAdds new forms and additional sheets to patient medical records as needed.Communicates all messages received in the absence of requested personnelMakes necessary entries in the computer/written logs per unit specificationsPerforms other duties as requestedOther Duties:
