Job Description
The Payroll Associate supports onboarding and new hire processes for a large project based in Fargo, ND, with a strong focus on union payroll. This part-time, fully remote role centers on accurate payroll data entry, new hire setup, and strict adherence to union rules and regulations. The position offers flexible scheduling and the opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing payroll organization within a leading national electrical contractor.
Responsibilities
Support onboarding and new hire processes for a major project in Fargo, ND, ensuring all payroll-related information is complete and accurate.Enter, update, and maintain employee and onboarding data in payroll systems with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Set up new hires in the payroll system, including union classifications, pay rates, and any applicable deductions or benefits tied to union agreements.Process union payroll in compliance with applicable union rules, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.Apply industry knowledge to interpret and navigate varying union agreements, ensuring that payroll calculations, contributions, and deductions align with contractual requirements.Perform payroll data entry tasks, including time and attendance information, rate changes, and other payroll adjustments for union employees.Collaborate with remote payroll team members to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for the Fargo project.Use Excel to organize, sort, and analyze payroll data, including applying formulas to validate and reconcile information.Maintain accurate records and documentation related to union payroll and onboarding activities for audit and compliance purposes.Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders to resolve questions or discrepancies related to union payroll and onboarding data.Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience in union payroll, including exposure to union rules, regulations, and agreements.Proficiency in Excel, including sorting, using formulas, and organizing data for payroll-related tasks.Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in payroll data entry and record maintenance.Experience with new hire setup and onboarding processes in a payroll or HR environment.Ability to interpret and apply union regulations and collective bargaining agreements in day-to-day payroll processing.Strong organizational skills to manage multiple onboarding and payroll tasks in a part-time, remote setting.Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with remote team members and internal stakeholders.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with payroll processing for large, multi-location projects or organizations.Experience working with union employees across varying agreements and jurisdictions.Comfort working in a growing payroll department where processes and volumes may evolve over time.Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision while remaining accountable for deadlines and accuracy.Interest in contributing to a rapidly expanding payroll function within a large electrical contracting organization.Work Environment
This is a 100% remote, part-time position, initially anticipated at approximately 24 hours per week, with the potential to increase to around 32 hours per week depending on hiring volumes and workload. The schedule offers flexibility in the specific days and hours worked, with workload driving the exact timing. The Payroll Associate works as part of a payroll department that is growing to more than 20 team members and will specifically support the Fargo, ND project alongside another remote team member. The role reports into a Payroll Manager based in San Jose and operates in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment within a large national electrical contractor. Work is computer-based, leveraging payroll systems and Excel, and is conducted entirely from a remote location with no specific dress code beyond what is appropriate for a professional virtual work setting.This position is moving extremely fast as this is an urgent need for the client. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
