Union Assistant Building Operator Job ID 237262 Posted 12-Nov-2025 Service line Advisory Segment Role type Full-time Areas of Interest Engineering/Maintenance Location(s) Toronto - Ontario - Canada **About The Role:** The Assistant Building Operator’s main functions include and are not limited to assisting the Building Operator with the operation and maintenance of Building Environmental and Life Safety Systems, liaise with tenant contacts to address any urgent/non urgent mechanical issues in a timely fashion, and maintain tenant satisfaction with building services at all times. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Building Operator to ensure the efficient operation of the property while providing a safe and comfortable environment for tenants on a year-round basis. This position will be on a 12-hour shift rotation as provided by the Chief Engineer. This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, monitoring & adjusting equipment via BAS and other systems. **What You'll Do:** + Monitor and operate building environmental systems to ensure proper and efficient operation of the property. + Monitor Life Safety systems to ensure equipment is fully functional and in good operational order. + Inspect all mechanical equipment and document and report operational and or mechanical deficiencies for repair. + Interact with tenants and other departments to ensure HVAC inquiries are resolved. + Complete maintenance tasks as required. + Perform specific tasks or projects assigned outside of the normal day-to-day operations. + Assume responsibility and initiate corrective action for any operational problems that may arise. + Adhere to procedures and ensure all work is completed in a safe & satisfactory manner. **What You'll Need:** To perform this job successfully, an individual will need to perform each crucial duty satisfactorily. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. + Minimum of 2 years of Building Operations related experience in a commercial property environment **.** + Must have a good understanding of the Operation and Maintenance routine of HVAC and Life Safety Equipment **.** + Must have a good understanding of chemical water treatment theories and practices **.** + Have a basic understanding and knowledge of how to read blueprints **.** + Must be able to work with power tools and possess a hands-on mechanical skill set **.** + Ability to follow basic work routines and standards in the application of work **.** + Communication skills to exchange straightforward information. + Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, Etc. + Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
