Underground Fitter

Loulo Gold Mine are seeking to recruit an Underground Fitters to join and grow our team. The Underground Fitter will be responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and performing trade-related maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery in accordance with sound engineering practices and equipment specifications.

Responsibilities
Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.
Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.
Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.
Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.
Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.
Perform inspections in accordance with mine standards and OEM specifications.
Conduct proper troubleshooting before conducting any repair.
Inspect equipment for proper performance and determine faults and malfunctions.
Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems according to the scope of work.
Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance.
Complete accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists in accordance with daily maintenance tasks.
Perform routine servicing and inspections on a variety of underground machines.
Provide feedback to the Maintenance Foreman to enable improvements to equipment or its operation.
Assist in compiling accurate data to process warranty claims and support engineering machine improvements.
Work as directed to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.
Ensure all activities comply with policies, guidelines, regulatory requirements, and meet objectives in line with OEM and Barrick maintenance strategies.
Ensure inspections are carried out on all equipment prior to use.
Ensure that all equipment is in a safe operational state and repaired to OEM specifications before returning to service.
Ensure that all tools and equipment are serviceable and safe.
Ensure any electrical bypass used to move disabled mobile equipment is documented and repaired to OEM specifications before returning to service.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Foreman.
Maintain proper housekeeping of equipment and work areas.
Contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with mine safety standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring daily targets are met.
Take responsibility for personal development and ongoing skills enhancement.
Train, develop and improve the skills of the national workforce.
Qualification requirements
Recognised Mechanical or Fitter Trade certificate or equivalent.
Training certificate in hydraulic circuits, earthmoving equipment maintenance, including engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drive train components.
Experience and Skills Required
Minimum 5 years’ related experience in maintenance of underground mechanical equipment.
Understanding of heavy equipment systems, including engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drive train components.
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and the ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic components
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
Experience in performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy mobile equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.
Deep knowledge on Sandvik equipment (TH663i, LH621i, DD421, DL432i, DL421, DU411, Getman, Maclean, Normet, Cat, Volvo etc.)
Must be competent in working at heights and usage of lifting equipment.
Good written and verbal communication skills and computer literate with the ability to utilise online forms or automation.
Must possess the ability to self-supervise on daily tasks and metrics.
Ability to work with a team and standalone for multiple hours.
