Underground Construction Technician

How You’ll Make an Impact

Understand and follow safety requirements and standards while supporting various construction projectsMove, secure, load and unload cable equipment, tools and materialsDig and restore holes and trenches, bury conduit and cables to support network constructionPull lasher, strand and cable between poles to build aerial network infrastructurePerform traffic control and flagging to ensure safe worksitesOperate and maintain crew vehicles

Working Conditions

Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night, including in poorly ventilated areasStand 50-70% of the time, carry and operate extension ladders, and climb poles as requiredTravel weekly with overnight stays as business needs dictateWork overtime, weekends or second shifts and participate in on-call rotation as needed

Required Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent work experience

Skills

Close and peripheral vision with ability to adjust focus and differentiate wire sizes and colorsAbility to carry, climb and operate extension ladders up to 28 feet and 75 pounds as neededAbility to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt with a 350-pound weight limit as neededAbility to travel between territories and facilities in inclement weather using a company vehicleAbility to work independently and as part of a teamFamiliarity with computer operating systems and software applicationsAbility to complete documentation accuratelyLicensesValid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record meeting Spectrum’s standards

Skills

Knowledge of basic electronic testing equipment such as ohm meters

Licenses

Ability to obtain all necessary state licenses for installing or servicing security services as neededCDL or ability to obtain CDL
