Summary: + Performs a variety of ultrasound exams using independent judgment and knowledge of ultrasonography principals. Assists Radiologist with diagnostic interpretations by providing high quality images and communicating technical impressions. Exceeds the highest standard of care and respect for all customers in the Radiology department. Responsibilities: 1. **Responsible for all types of procedures performed within the Ultrasound Department.** a. Knowledge of all preparations for each exam. 1. 1. Provide technologist impressions to Radiologist for all exams. 2. Perform biopsies and other invasive procedures with the direct’ supervision of the Radiologist. 3. Procedures are high quality diagnostic images. 1. 1. 2. Ultrasound procedures are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Open communication between sonographer and Radiologist remains at a professional level. Diagnostic quality images are provided to Radiologist for interpretation. 2. **Maintains a clean and safe environment for customers and healthcare team members.** 1. 1. Follows safety and infection control policies. 2. Cleans transducers and exam table after each patient. 3. Provides patient comfort and hygiene measures. 4. Utilizes personal protective equipment when applicable. 5. Insures rooms are stocked with necessary supplies. 6. 7. Universal Precautions and isolation procedures are followed. Safety procedures are demonstrated. Proper cleaning solutions are kept current. 8. Personal Protective equipment station is provided and stocked properly. 2. **Responsible for proper use and condition of Ultrasound equipment.** 1. 1. Responsible for operational condition of equipment. 2. Notifies Clinical Engineering of any malfunctions or adjustments needed of equipment. 3. Checks chemical levels of film processor replenishing as necessary. Load film magazines. 4. 5. Equipment used in Ultrasound is kept clean and in operational condition. Equipment malfunctions are reported to Clinical Engineering for repair. Laser printer and processor properly maintained. 4. **Provides the highest quality of care and respect for all customers in the Radiology department.** 1. 1. Introduces oneself to customers. 2. Explains all procedures to customers prior to beginning. 3. Insures patients are as comfortable as exams allow. 4. Completes customer interactions by asking “is anything else the customer needs.” 5. Provides patient confidentiality at all times. 6. 7. Radiology department expectations are met with the highest quality care and respect given to all customers. 8. Patient education is delivered effectively to all customers.
