**GENERAL SUMMARY:**
Performs same duties as a diagnostic medical Sonographer and in addition, provides functional guidance to all Sonographers in all ultrasound departments.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Assists department management in interviewing, hiring, orienting, evaluating, training and counseling Sonographers in all ultrasound areas. Oversees the day-to-day patient care activities in all ultrasound areas by assuring adequate staffing. Schedules, plans and assigns duties of staff to meet patient care requirements and participates in staff meetings. Assures the quality of all ultrasound procedures by utilizing equipment, other available resources, technique and protocol to identify problems and evaluate services. Takes appropriate corrective actions to resolve problems. Works in cooperation with other coordinators to assist and direct Sonographers in completing all requested work appropriately and in a timely manner. Regularly performs a variety of routine and complex diagnostic imaging procedures as a Sonographer. Ensures that all Sonographers are following the institution's Radiation Safety Policy. Oversees and ensures proper treatment of patients while in the department and ensures that incident reports on any injuries sustained in the department are completed. Monitors and immediately reports equipment in need of repair to appropriate personnel. May make recommendations for purchase of new equipment and maintenance of existing equipment, and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies. Instructs students and new staff members in clinical imaging procedures and serves as a resource to Sonographers. Maintains BLS competency as evidenced by attendance at an annual BLS review. Maintains registry by obtaining necessary continuing education credits. Practices sterile, isolation and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and maintains documentation of infection control procedures and activities. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
**REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE**
**Education:**
+ Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
+ One to two years progressively more responsible related work experience.
