Traveling Controls Engineer
Job Title: Traveling Controls Engineer Location: Cranberry Twp, PA Type: Direct-Hire Compensation: 100-120K Contractor Work Model: On site Traveling Controls Engineer Objective Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems for OEM manufacturing equipment from concept through commissioning. Create PLC and HMI programs that monitor and control engineered production systems, ensuring safe, efficient operation of polyurethane processing machinery for end users. Responsibilities + Develop PLC and HMI software programs from initial concept through deployment + Conduct factory and field testing to validate control systems against project specifications + Generate project documentation including programming records and system specifications + Meet project schedules and objectives by analyzing specifications, customer requirements, and milestone deliverables + Coordinate tasks with mechanical engineers, project managers, and electrical engineers + Complete assigned project deliverables on time and within scope + Monitor project budgets and schedules to ensure adherence to targets + Conduct post-project evaluations to identify process improvements + Travel to customer sites for commissioning, troubleshooting, and training (40–50% including international) + Design and specify new control architectures or integrate with third-party control platforms + Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations + Collaborate with project and sales teams to define machine functionality and user interface requirements + Work with project and manufacturing teams to resolve control system build issues + Review electrical schematics with customer personnel during installation phases + Manage multiple concurrent projects at various stages of development Requirements + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering + 3–5 years of controls engineering experience in an OEM equipment manufacturer or automation integrator environment + Demonstrated ability to program PLC and HMI systems from scratch based on conceptual requirements (not limited to plant maintenance modifications) + Programming and troubleshooting proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs using Studio 5000 and RSLogix 5000 + Experience with PanelView operator interfaces using FactoryTalk View Studio ME + Working knowledge of PowerFlex variable frequency drives + Hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude for diagnosing machinery and control system integration issues + Capability to work autonomously and as part of project teams + Understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems for industrial machinery + Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 40–50% of time Preferences + Programming and troubleshooting experience with Siemens PLCs and Comfort Panel operator interfaces using TIA Portal + Experience with Siemens variable frequency drives + Programming and troubleshooting experience with Mitsubishi PLCs, operator interfaces, and VFDs + Familiarity with barcoding and RFID systems + Robot programming experience using Fanuc platforms System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé, ALTA IT Services, and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
