Transdev in Oakland, CA is hiring a Travel Trainer. Under the direction of the Certification Manager and using established procedures, the Travel Trainer would be responsible for formulation, implementation and training for East Bay Paratransit eligible riders and applicants. Travel Trainers typically work with people with disabilities and/or disabling health conditions who want to learn how to travel via AC Transit and/or BART on their own. Travel Trainers will provide education and training both in a classroom setting and on-site training. Duties will be performed primarily one-on-one with group training when needed. Secondarily, Travel Trainers will be responsible for reviewing ADA eligibility application forms, conducting second-level assessments and making determinations of paratransit eligibility and establishing reasons for denial of ADA eligibility appropriate for presentation during an Appeals Process. As a Travel Trainer, you will not only help drive operational excellence but also contribute to meaningful advancements in transportation that impact our community. We are seeking customer service-oriented professionals who are advocates for public transportation services.

Key Responsibilities:
+ Coordinate and provide one-on-one and small group travel training instruction to individuals with special needs, seniors, and people with disabilities/disabling health conditions.
+ Create a training guide and provide training and instruction in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, bus rules, regulations, appropriate public behavior, safety skills, and how to us AC Transit & BART agency mobile apps/websites/others.
+ Maintain detailed records of client progress and prepare the required reports as needed.
+ Conduct and/or participate in program orientation presentations to community groups and organizations to explain program services, operation and progress.
+ Plans and develops individualized training schedules for program participants including identification of special needs training.
+ Processes RTC and Senior Clipper cards for program participants.
+ Answer Certification department calls and provides customer service assistance as needed.
+ Explain eligibility criteria to new, current, and potential paratransit riders and applicants.
+ Conduct in-person assessments, transit skills assessments, phone interviews and other verification methods to determine ADA paratransit eligibility, including category, conditions, and reasons for denial.
Qualifications:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Some college exposure in an allied health profession is highly preferred. Ability to obtain Travel Trainer Certification via Easter Seals Travel Trainer Certification Program. Experience working with elderly/disabled also preferred. Possess the ability to work with customers and co-workers with diverse ethnic backgrounds and disabilities. Experience using a personal computer is a must. Have proficient English skills both verbally and in written form. Must be organized and focused.
Work Schedule:
This position must be available to work a set schedule, generally Monday through Friday, 8:00-5:00PM. Will work full time and must be available to work an eight-hour shift five days per week and be available to report to duty as needed, 365 days per year including holidays. Occasional overtime may be required.
Physical Requirements:
+ Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
+ 50% of work is accomplished indoors and another 50% is accomplished outdoors in public setting.
+ The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen or utilizing local fixed-route public transportation.
Environment:
Approximately 50% of the work is performed on-site in a professional office setting that is well lighted, climate controlled, dust and smoke free. 50% of the work will be in public settings reviewing transit routes and providing transit skill instruction. Building and work areas are fully ADA accessible. This is an environmentally friendly office. The use of scented products or other fragrances, natural or synthetic, is not permitted.
