Monitors the transportation contractors' performance to ensure compliance with provisions of the contract;
Works with contractor to establish, modify and monitor bus routes and stops as needed;
Analyzes all billings and negotiable charges with the contractor;
Provides liaison between the public, school district, contractor and Highway Patrol to answer questions and provide public relations and communications;
Approves, plans and verifies all schedules for regular and special education pupil transportation to ensure the schedules are both safe and cost efficient;
Prepares data for contract negotiations with transportation carriers;
Coordinates and schedules the district's athletic and field trip transportation;
Implements and coordinates fee based home to school transportation program;
Reviews financial data and determines eligibility for free or reduced transportation fees;
Researches rules, laws and regulations pertaining to school transportation;
Responds to and investigates complaints and resolves problems and conflicts between the contractor, school employees, parents and students;
Conducts a variety of organization studies;
Prepares clear and concise reports;
Performs other related duties.
Experience:
Experience in a public school setting performing complex duties utilizing analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Experience in pupil transportation activities highly desirable.
Experience in a school site clerical/administrative capacity is desirable.
Education:
Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.
Knowledge of:
Practices and problems of operating a school transportation system;
Transportation scheduling;
Policies, rules and regulations of school pupil transportation.
Ability to:
Plan and arrange bus schedules under district policies and state laws;
Analyze costs of operation and maintain appropriate cost records for transportation reports;
Read and interpret maps;
Interpret and apply various transit-related regulations, ensure compliance with safety issues;
Proficiently operate a computer using database, spreadsheet and word processing programs;
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work;
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
