Join us. **Job Description** **AECOM** is actively seeking a self-motivated **Transportation Planner** to join our **Grand Rapids, Detroit, Novi or Traverse City, MI** transportation team. AECOM performs engineering and other associated services to develop and deliver various transportation projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other local agency clients, including some of the most complex projects within the state. This position provides planning and coordination support to the AECOM Michigan Surface Transportation Team and other subject matter experts for projects being developed and delivered by AECOM. This position will work closely with our client’s staff as well as resource and regulatory agency staff to assist with planning our projects. The person in this position will be supported by other staff and is expected to grow their knowledge of planning processes and procedures to obtain project approvals. The position is primarily an office-based position but may also participate in field investigations as needs arise. **Duty 1 - General Summary of Duty 1 - % of Time: 80** Develop project planning documents. + Review technical reports and available Geographic Information System (GIS) databases to determine potential project impacts to resources. + Conduct site reviews to identify potential resource constraints early in a project’s life cycle. + Prepare MDOT forms and applications for trunkline and local agency projects. + Complete transportation planning studies and develop reports/memos, including transportation alternatives analyses for comparison of roadway configurations. + Assist subject matter experts with field studies and analyses and in development of technical reports that may be required under applicable laws. + Support public involvement activities that are required as part of public meetings, stakeholder engagement, and public hearings. + Assist with developing contract language and special provisions for design-bid-build and design-build projects. + Coordinate with engineering staff to ensure construction constraints and obligations are accurately reflected in contract documents. **Duty 2 - General Summary of Duty 2 - % of Time: 10** Compliance assistance. + Assist with site inspection and reporting responsibilities on construction projects when AECOM is part of the design-build team. + Travel to job sites and perform review of mitigation measures and soil erosion and sedimentation control measures to support compliance. + Recommend adjustments to soil erosion and sedimentation control measures to ensure site compliance. **Duty 3 - General Summary of Duty 3 - % of Time: 10** GIS and CAD support. + Perform GIS analysis. + Prepare exhibits for permit applications. + Prepare exhibits for AECOM studies, reports, and proposals **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements:** + BA/BS in Planning, Geography, Natural Sciences, or related fields plus minimum of four (4) years combined experience in transportation planning or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. + Must have Valid Drivers License **Preferred Qualifications:** + Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills. + Technical background and expertise in a planning discipline with experience assessing project impacts. + Experience with State and local transportation agencies, and their policies and practices are preferred. **Additional Information** + Visa Sponsorship is not offered for this role. Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications.
