This position is the first step in theTransportation Operations Team Leader (TOTL)horizontal career path series. The TOTL HCP starts at the Transportation Technician Principal, Maintenance (TTPM) classification. This is a challenging career opportunity that will focus on supervising staff and coordinating highway maintenance. The successful candidate will be proactive, safety focused, have excellent communication and computer skills and will be a constructive team leader. Employees in the Transportation Operations Team Leader (TOTL) horizontal career path must complete the following two steps within four years. To pass the steps, you must meet key performance indicators, demonstrate essential skills and maintain worker safety. This position will be overseeing and guiding the team based inSalmon, Idaho. Employees entering the career path as a Lead Worker, or with at least 5 years of relevant and equivalent documented experience, may be eligible to start at Step 1. After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below: + TTPM Entry: $27.71 + TTPM Step 1: $30.91 + TOTL Step 2: $34.85 The current opening requires: + Current Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement at time of hire + Random drug and alcohol testing + Occasionally work nights and weekends Example of Duties: + Supervises or coordinates maintenance projects on state highway + Assists staff to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate activities of staff in major maintenance and repair projects + Estimates equipment, materials and manpower needed for projects + Uses highway plans, specifications, maps, and aerial photos for repair, widening, alignment and right-of-way purposes + Inspects completed work and assures quality and compliance with standards and specifications + Coordinates activities with utility companies, city, county and state agencies and contractors Incumbents are required to work in all weather conditions, under hazardous conditions, on obstructed roads and congested highways, in considerable noise, around operating equipment, and with hazardous materials. Frequent travel to and from work site with some overnight stay is required. Some positions require maintaining a residence within 30 minutes from their workstation. Minimum Qualifications: Good knowledge of: + Highway maintenance materials and procedures + Equipment management systems and operational capabilities and limitations for highway maintenance activities; policies + Procedures and traffic control for highway maintenance Experience: + Planning and organizing work crews with appropriate equipment and materials for routine and emergency maintenance and repair projects + Training others in equipment operation and methods and procedures used for highway maintenance and repair + Inspecting maintenance and repair activities for compliance with standard practice and specifications + Using project plans, specifications, and special provisions + Operating and performing preventive maintenance on heavy maintenance and construction equipment + Valid driver's license Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of: + Heavy equipment and fleet operations; supervisory and leadership practices; Microsoft Office software Experience: + Working in a collaborative and high-functioning team environment; collecting data in electronic databases, analyzing the data, and making business decisions based on the data Benefits: The State of Idaho offers a robust total compensation package, including medical, vision, and dental insurance; PERSI retirement benefits; paid sick, vacation, and parental leave; and 11 paid holidays per year.
