Job DescriptionAECOM is actively seeking a self-motivated Transportation NEPA Coordinator to join our Grand Rapids, Detroit, Novi or Traverse City, MI transportation environmental team. AECOM performs engineering and other associated services to develop and deliver various transportation projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other local agency clients, including some of the most complex projects within the state. This position provides environmental support to the AECOM Michigan Transportation Environmental Unit and other subject matter experts for projects being developed and delivered by AECOM. This position will work closely with our client’s environmental staff as well as resource and regulatory agency staff to assist with environmental aspects of our projects. The person in this position will be supported by other staff and is expected to grow their knowledge of the NEPA process and procedures to obtain environmental clearance. The position is primarily an office-based position but may also participate in field investigation as needs arise.
Duty 1 - General Summary of Duty 1 - % of Time: 80
Develop and obtain environmental clearance.
Review technical reports and available Geographic Information System (GIS) databases to determine potential project impacts to the natural, cultural, and human environment.Conduct site reviews to identify potential environmental constraints early in a project’s life cycle.Develop mitigation measures to avoid and minimize impacts to identified environmental resources.Prepare MDOT environmental clearance forms and cultural resource applications.Complete Project Area Contamination Surveys (PACS) and develop reports/memos.Assist subject matter experts with field studies and in development of technical reports, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other associated documentation that may be required under the National Environmental Policy Act.Support public involvement activities that are required as part of the environmental studies.Assist with developing contract language and special provisions for design-bid-build and design-build projects.Coordinate with engineering staff to ensure environmental constraints and obligations are accurately reflected in contract documents.Assist with preparation of permit applications and other regulatory approvals that may be required for EGLE, DNR, USACE, and other agencies.Duty 2 - General Summary of Duty 2 - % of Time: 10
Environmental compliance assistance.
Assist with Environmental Compliance Manager responsibilities on construction projects when AECOM is part of the design-build team.Travel to job sites and perform review of mitigation measures and soil erosion and sedimentation control measures to support compliance.Recommend adjustments to soil erosion and sedimentation control measures to ensure site compliance.Duty 3 - General Summary of Duty 3 - % of Time: 10
GIS and CAD support.
Perform GIS analysis to understand project effects and impacts to environmental resources.Prepare exhibits for permit applications.Prepare exhibits for AECOM studies, reports, and proposalsQualificationsMinimum Requirements:
BA/BS in Environmental Sciences, Planning, Geography, or related fields plus minimum of four (4) years combined experience in NEPA compliance or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.Must have Valid Drivers LicensePreferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills.Knowledge and experience with environmental review and compliance requirements in MichiganTechnical background and expertise in a NEPA discipline, such as cultural resources, noise, air quality, biology, Clean Water Act permitting.Experience with State and local transportation agencies, and their environmental policies and practices are preferred.Additional InformationAbout AECOM
