THE POSITION
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and driven individual with exceptional communication abilities to join their team. In this pivotal position, you will engage in a diverse range of professional tasks that include serving as a liaison, providing expert advice, and promoting initiatives for the Engineering District 12-0 Office as well as the County Maintenance Organizations. Your role will be crucial in fostering collaboration and ensuring effective communication between various stakeholders, ultimately contributing to the successful execution of engineering projects and maintenance operations. This opportunity not only allows you to utilize your skills in a dynamic environment but also offers the chance to make a significant impact within the community.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Press Officer to design and implement a comprehensive community outreach program. This involves organizing and coordinating various events with a diverse range of stakeholders, including school districts, community organizations, municipalities, and transportation partners. Your responsibilities will also encompass executing community and media outreach initiatives aimed at litter prevention. Additionally, you will work alongside district and Central Office personnel to gather and update information for communication resources, such as the "Doing Business with PennDOT" guide as well as content updates to district or department websites.
You will play a key role in managing media relations by addressing customer inquiries, planning district media events, conducting interviews, and preparing press releases on pertinent topics related to your duties. Furthermore, you will create messages and informational materials tailored for internal audiences, stakeholders, legislators, the public, and media representatives, focusing on department initiatives and projects. In times of routine operations or emergencies, you will provide support to the Press Officer (CRC2) by coordinating communication efforts with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the PennDOT Central Communications Office.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment.
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
+ This position may be eligible for an Alternate Work Schedule (AWS).
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Two years of public relations work experience promoting programs through the mass media, or community organizing experience; and a bachelor’s degree;or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training.
