Job Description

As Transport Manager you will ensure the effective operation of the Transport function, drive continuous improvements and further develop integrated transport solutions to deliver a premium and cost effective service. You will produce, agree & manage the Transport budget, accounting for any variances.  Take a proactive approach in order to fully engage any new initiatives at the depot, ensuring the integration of projects is successful in line with business needs.

Key Duties;

Proactively seek optimisation without affecting serviceIntegration and control of new cross dock clients where applicableIncreased vehicle fleet to include offsite parkingResponsible for the interface between every area of the operation to ensure efficiency and effectivenessDirect, motivate and develop team members to equip them with the skills to lead and manage their teamsEnsure compliance with all statutory legislation in regard to Health & Safety and statutory Transport rules and regulationsManaging a group of approved 3rd party hauliers on national and international journeysResponsible for communication cascades throughout the transport operationPropose, agree and implement service standard agreements for products with customers in conjunction with other areas of the businessConsider proposals and implementation of improvements methods in regard to staff, operational changes to transport associated activities which will improve efficiency and/or levels of performanceEnsure a secure and safe environment for staff and productsSupport the Company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example recycling initiativesClient Interface with all major customers including implementation meetings, customer reviews and other ad hoc meetings as requiredWork to tight deadlines on new initiativesProvide effective leadership and direction to the Transport DepartmentEnsure the Companies Operator Licences are maintained efficiently and accurately at all times. Contingency planning to avoid Company exposure to the Operator LicencesTo drive through continuous improvement initiativesProactive management of new legislationEffective Manage the Transport Department through KPI measuresEffective day-to-day decision making for administration teamsRetailer Interface in regard to Key supplier management for quality and costSignificant UK and continental supplier collection responsibilitiesAchieve efficiency through managing, planning and controlling staff on a daily basis, and an ongoing basis through objectives

QualificationsProfessional and confident communication skillsGood management skills in terms of both Contract management and man managementOperational experience in a food transport environmentPragmatic approach to problem solvingSignificant transport experience in FMCG environmentPlanning and organising skills, high level of numeracyNegotiating skills,  ability to influence and steerPersonal motivation and confidence to have a positive impact.Highly tolerant of change with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive change within an evolving business organisationAble to thrive in a highly competitive and demanding non-bureaucratic environmentRobust and resilientAble to work efficiently across the business and functional boundariesCommercially focussed and bottom-line orientedConsumer oriented and customer-service drivenIOSHNational CPC
