Position Summary Helen Gordon Child Development Center (HGCDC) and Helen Gordon Infant/Toddler Center (HGITC) are full-day children’s programs for Portland State University, serving children aged six weeks to five years. Located on the PSU campus in downtown Portland, the Centers provide model early childhood programs for the children of Portland State University students, faculty and staff, and the Portland community. The Centers are a laboratory for students and faculty participating in observation, practice and research activities in Early Childhood Education, Child, Youth and Family Studies, psychology, and related fields. HGCDC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The Transition Program Coordinator assists the HGCDC Director in providing overall program administration and leadership for the Helen Gordon Child Development Center and is responsible for the overall philosophy and pedagogical coordination of the Center’s program for 2–3-year-olds.
Minimum Qualifications B.A. in Child Development, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field. 5 years of full-time, lead teaching, preferably in an accredited child development setting. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of child development. Knowledge of early childhood education theory and practice; demonstrated ability to apply theory to practice. Has demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
Preferred Qualifications M.A. in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Is familiar with RIE and Reggio strategies to working with children under 3 years. Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds. Work Days/Hours Monday-Friday, 8:45am-5:45pm Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be between $49,140 and $57,636, but may be negotiated above this range, dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
An excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
