**Your role and responsibilities**
The Transition Manager is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget and with high customer satisfaction. He/she manages high-visibility and complex transitions to migrate processes from the client to the IBM delivery centers and creates transition solutions that contribute to the growth of IBM. He/she ensures that the Center/s under him / her is ready from a people, process, and infrastructure standpoint upon go live.
Transition Managers are expected to know and apply standard methodologies to support the execution, development, and coordination of winning transition solutions and costs during all phases of transition, including appropriate closure activities. Transition Managers are client-facing and have a focus on client satisfaction and the overall client relationship.
1. Lead complex transition projects in the Center (or other IBM Centers) or perform any of the following global roles when required:
a) Global Cut-over Manager
b) Global Test Manager
c) Deputy Transition Integration Manager
d) Transition Integration Manager
Note: There may be instances when the Transition Manager will be assigned to support transformation projects, or act as Process SMEs, Change Managers, or Program Managers.
2. Where process knowledge is required, act as the process expert and provide guidance in the creation of process-specific knowledge transfer plans, scope of work analysis, etc.
3. Ensures transitions managed adhere to IBM’s transition methodology and set of standards.
a) Develops the over-all transition project plan and identifies dependencies of deliverables with other project teams.
b) On communication:
- Facilitates effective communication and working relationships within the transition team and with the account team
- Establishes and maintains relationships with the customers, account team and 3rd party suppliers/interfaces
- Exhibits strong communication skills, facilitating open dialogue and welcoming divergent viewpoints.
c) On project leadership and resource management:
- Acts as the single point of contact for transition on the account
- Communicates recruiting requirements
- Ensures the delivery teams and Center Support teams engaged in transition meet project deliverables
- Tracks actual effort expended and time frames against baseline defined in the transition’s project schedule
- Executes and controls the project by managing scope, cost, and schedule. Ensures quality of transition and that project is business controls compliant.
- Practices the principles of successful negotiation under supervision or approved situations.
- Advises other professionals based on deep functional knowledge.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships across departments / teams.
- Supervises junior professionals, providing mentorship/coaching and fostering to grow their career and skills.
- Proficient in utilizing advanced digital tools and AI technologies to drive collaboration and enhance communication within teams and across departments.
- Takes the initiative to make informed decisions regarding project direction, resource allocation, and timelines with limited supervision.
d) On risk, issue, and change management:
- Leads the tracking and creation of the action plan for the identified risks, issues and gaps of the project
- Identifies and manages change against the transition scope and budgets
- Recognizes and addresses complex functional problems. Anticipates potential problems and trends to inform proactive decisions. Integrates multiple data sources to conduct thorough analyses, used as basis to develop and implement solutions.
- Streamlines complex workflows by simplifying task management and improving inter team coordination, leading to faster project completion.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges. Applies new and emerging tools and technologies to drive innovative solutions.
- Drives initiatives to automate key processes, reducing manual effort and minimizing errors across the team.
- Evaluates potential risks and benefits independently, demonstrating sound judgment in choosing the best course of action.
a) On financial management:
- Work with the Finance Analyst in ensuring that the project is within budget
- Drive meeting IBM contractual obligations and costs effectively
b) Deliver successful and well-documented transitions and ensure there’s smooth hand-over to Operations. Meet all success criteria identified at the start of the project.
4. Ensure transition solutions created and transitions managed adhere to IBM’s transition methodology and set of standards.
a) transition solutions are saleable and deliverable
b) on-time, on-budget, and quality delivery (with high customer satisfaction) of transition projects to the Center
c) projects are controls and quality compliant
5. Proactively provides inputs to enhance delivery of transition projects based on experience with prior engagements and delivery expertise.
a) participate in lessons learned sessions
b) participate in initiatives to gather best practices with global transition teams
6. Meet financial targets
**Required technical and professional expertise**
1. More than 5 years experience in creating transition solutions and transition management (plus additional relevant/related experience in other fields).
2. Expert in project management methodologies.
3. Cross-tower and cross-delivery center experience and capability is required.
4. Strong risk and issue management skills.
5. One or more process expertise in any of the following -- HR, F&A and SCM, and Customer Transformation
6. Strong client management skills.
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
Test management experience is optional but preferred.
