Are You Someone Who Can:

Implement strategies to originate and execute transactions for new and existing clients to the bank (business development)Implement effective sales strategies and plans to ensure delivery of client plans to meet and exceed financial targets and the quality of client experience targetsAchieve agreed budget targets for new business and revenue from existing client base, and also source new business opportunities externallyUnderstand the activities of competitors and the impact of these on the relationship with the organisation’s clientsManage regular client interaction/visits to maintain relationships and pursue and grow business opportunitiesNetwork with key clients and industry players to generate leads and create brand awarenessFollow up on all leads, reacting promptly to requests for service and identifying client needs promptly to proactively market appropriate solutionsNegotiate and drive deal acceptance by presenting logical, appropriate, and convincing arguments that take into account the needs of all partiesTake full accountability for the client relationship and maintain a thorough knowledge of client profiles in the portfolio through regular contact and in-person visitsKeep up to date with financial and capital structures of business, growth plans, strengths and weaknesses and competitorsUse Microsoft applications especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word for preparing transaction proposals and executionPrepare presentations and pitches, these include bespoke unsolicited presentations to clients as well as Request For Proposals (RFPs)Be able to engage with internal stakeholders and service providers including external legal counselBalance technical input and marketing skill to address client environment and needsEstablish credibility for the bank by the skilful application of specialist knowledge to deal with diverse client environmentsEffectively manage relationships with internal stakeholders such as Distribution, Credit, Legal Transaction Support, among othersHold primary relationship (within Debt Capital Markets, and alongside Institutional and Corporate Client Groups) with clients and handle all aspects of client interaction including coordinating and execution of transactionsMaintain good relations with team members, support staff and other Transactors in other divisions/business areasStructure transactions appropriately by balancing risk and reward and manage the credit application process (where applicable) in a timely and efficient mannerNegotiate pricing and financing arrangements with clientsHave a good understanding of financial markets and the impact they will have on the suitability of various debt productsPerform appropriate financial modelling and cash flow analysis to arrive at appropriately structured financing solutionCreate a business plan/strategy for each client and potential clientMine portfolio data to identify opportunities for further business and to identify risk indicatorsReview portfolios and record all client dealingsBe disciplined and efficient in ensuring that controls are in order and turnaround times are adhered toConform to the bank’s risk policies and proceduresWhere appropriate, if involved in a funding solution which involves Credit Committee approval, to be actively involved with the deal team members to assist in the preparation of committee papersRemain alert to changes in risk profiles of the portfolio and structure alternative mitigation or remedial plans to contain or minimise potential lossesUnderstand pricing for riskParticipate in planned activities that are appropriate for own and employee developmentCoach team through providing advice about subject matter, solutions, principles and processes and personal progression with the aim to improve performanceDevelop, encourage, and nurture collaborative relationships within RMB and/or across the FirstRand Group

You Will Be An Ideal Candidate If You:

Have at least 5 years’ experience in Debt Capital Markets (ideally South African Market), with any other client facing Investment Banking experience being beneficialPost-graduate or Honours degreeAre a qualified CA (SA) or CFA with relevant experience within Investment BankingHave extensive client relationships across corporates, financial institutions or state owned entitiesStrong work ethic with a self-starter attitude and a keenness to take ownership of the role’s opportunities and personal development
