VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT: TRAINING SPECIALIST – ENGINEERING DRAWING

 Reporting to the Coordinator – Apprenticeship and Graduates, the Training Specialist –Engineering Drawing you will be required to design and deliver a structured program that teaches apprentices to read and produce accurate engineering drawings using drafting standards and CAD tools. You will assess competence through practical assignments and portfolios, ensuring apprentices can create workshop-ready drawings with correct dimensions, tolerances, symbols, and revision control. You will collaborate with engineers and supervisors to align training with real jobs, track progress in competency records, and continuously improve training based on quality issues and changing technical requirements.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Design a structured technical drawing curriculum (foundation to advanced) aligned to apprenticeship levels, trade needs, and company standards.

Deliver instruction in engineering drawing principles and CAD drafting, including templates, layers, annotation, plotting/printing, and file management. 

Ensure apprentices can read and apply drawings correctly for manufacturing/maintenance—views, sections, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, and notes. 

Enforce drafting standards (ISO/BS/company), correct dimensioning/tolerancing practices, and consistent drawing conventions. 

Develop assessments and rubrics; evaluate apprentices through tests, projects, and portfolios; validate readiness for workplace drafting tasks. 

Train and monitor correct revision control, numbering, versioning, and storage according to document management procedures. 

Liaise with engineers, artisans, and supervisors to align training projects to real work orders and requirements. 

Provide targeted coaching to struggling apprentices; support mentors/supervisors with guidance on-the-job drawing tasks and feedback. 

 Maintain training matrices/records, track milestones, and produce progress reports and gap analyses. 

Review drawing errors, feedback, and production/maintenance issues to update training content, tools, and methods. 

Strengthen graduate drawing interpretation and CAD drafting skills through rotations, coached projects, and clear competency milestones.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Full Grade 12 School Certificate.

Minimum Diploma in Technical Drawing and Design or related field.

Diploma in Teaching Methodology from a recognised learning institution. 

5 years’ experience in a similar role.

Experience in the mining industry will be an added advantage.

Strong communication and coaching skills.

Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced production environment.
