Training Specialist Associate - Simulation Tech Apply Now **Job Summary** The Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS) at the University of Michigan Medical School is a first-of-its-kind basic science department focused on the learning sciences within health at all levels of scale: individuals, teams, organizations, and large-scale systems that span states and nations. The department has three divisions: (1) The Division of Learning and Knowledge Systems primarily focuses on learning at higher levels of scale. (2) The Division of Professional Education primarily addresses learning by individuals and teams in preparation for careers as healthcare providers. (3) The Clinical Simulation Center focuses on learning by individuals and teams in environments with advanced simulation technology that model the real world of clinical practice. The simulation technician will provide technical, clinical, administrative and educational support for CSC during simulation-based educational activities. including working with faculty and staff to develop and control effective simulation-based education within CSC in the clinical settings. Candidates will lead instruction of American Heart Association (AHA) educational courses: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). **Mission Statement** Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society. **Responsibilities*** 35% - Teaching/Training Work closely with faculty and staff to develop and program new simulation scenarios for training events. Control scenarios during simulation events in the CSC, and during on-unit training events throughout the UM Hospitals and Health Centers. Participate in simulated training scenarios, as a patient and/or confederate role during training events. Provide training for faculty and staff on uses of simulator and other equipment within the Simulation Center. In a lead role, may oversee the training of new Simulation Technician Staff. Provide education for clinically relevant skills, including, but not limited to, CSC on-site training (OTP), BLS, ACLS and PALS. Proctor and oversee FES and FLS testing and management learner documentation. Provide training assessment feedback during training debrief session. Actively participate in the sessions, including leading discussion and taking on a patient and/or confederate role during training events. 25% - Technical Support Provide first line technical and operational support of simulators, computers, audio visual and other simulation center equipment. Monitor rooms and provide first line user operational support to faculty, course administrators and participants during CSC events. Assist in data collection including distribution/collection of assessments and assure that participants complete the online CSC check-in/check-out forms, enter daily utilization, etc. as requested. 20% - Administrative Provide clerical duties including, but not limited to, answering phones and emails, distributing AHA course material, maintaining the AHA database to include registration and payment history for participants, maintain course availability online as courses are filled, canceled or added, email AHA confirmations and reminders, assist with the preparation of all course materials and post course materials for the registrants, prepare materials for instructors, check in/out registrants, serve as a facilitator for client interactions, assist with ordering and receiving supplies, and participate in special projects, as required. 20% - Operations Duties include set-up, assembly/disassembly, operation, and cleaning of equipment, furniture, simulators, instruments and accessories, and transport of simulators, audio visual equipment and other equipment, instruments and supplies to various locations on the main UMHS campus and off-site locations. Install, inspect, repair, calibrate and maintain simulators and other equipment. Ensure safe operation and effective performance of equipment by conducting approved programs for quality control and maintenance. Keep storage areas orderly and properly stocked, monitor inventory of medical equipment, simulators, and disposable medical supplies, and report needed materials for ordering. **Required Qualifications*** + Education & Experience: An Associate degree in Computer Science or a healthcare-related field is required, along with a minimum of two years' experience in high-fidelity simulation or clinical healthcare (e.g., EMT, Anesthesia technician, ORT). + Certifications: Teaching experience and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Instructor Certification are necessary. + Work Ethic & Autonomy: The role involves frequent non-routine duties, requiring the ability to resolve most problems and work under minimal supervision, escalating only the most complex issues. + Technical Proficiency: A strong background in computer use, setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance is essential, including proficiency with Windows and OSX systems, digital audio-visual editing, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies. + Audio-Visual Expertise: Experience with setting up and maintaining audio-visual equipment, along with knowledge of digital audio and/or multimedia systems, is also required. **Desired Qualifications*** Current certifications as EMT, FLS proctor, AHA BLS, ACLS or PALS provider and instructor are desired; however, these certifications may be obtained later if the candidate has other applicable clinical and educational qualifications. Teaching experience.
