The role:
Due to a strong pipeline of upcoming work, McKenzie Group Consulting is seeking a Trainee Building Surveyor to join our Canberra office, which supports both commercial and residential projects.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a career in building surveying. You’ll be supported by experienced professionals and exposed to a wide range of projects as you work toward becoming a licensed certifier. We’re looking for someone who’s hardworking, eager to learn, open to direction, and ready to grow with us.
You’ll be part of a collaborative and inclusive team of around 20 building surveying professionals in Canberra, with access to broader expertise across other departments. The office promotes flexible work arrangements, regular social events, and volunteering days—creating a great balance of professionalism and culture.
Key Accountabilities:Supporting the assessment of project documentation and learning to liaise with clients on compliance with the Building Act, Regulations, and Building Code of Australia Assisting in the preparation and issuance of building permits in a courteous and timely manner Learning to identify non-compliance and explore alternative solutions under guidance Helping maintain accurate documentation and job files across internal systems Supporting communication with authorities and councils, ensuring timely and accurate responses Assisting in the preparation of technical reports and compliance recommendations Working closely with senior surveyors to build technical knowledge and confidence
What do you need?
We’re looking for someone who is:
Currently undertaking or recently completed a relevant university degree (or equivalent qualification) Willing to work toward accreditation and licensing within ACT/state requirements Open to feedback, direction, and continuous learning Able to manage time effectively and contribute to team goals A clear communicator who enjoys working with others and building relationships Motivated to grow into a qualified building surveyor and make a long-term impactThe Benefits:
