Traffic Rate/Shipping Specialist
**Job Description** Basic Functions: Shipping Specialist (Union based position) This employee will perform specialized functions relating to: packaging, and documentation of the shipment of government and commercial material. This includes interpreting Sales Orders, preparing Government and Commercial Packing Sheets, Bills of Lading and other shipping documents to conform with shipping requirements. Secure economical and efficient transportation for material being shipped. This occupation also requires the monitoring and ordering of materials and developing packaging/marking procedures; layout, fabrication, and assembly of shipping crates and boxes and the packing, loading and securing of electronic assemblies, materials, tooling, and products for domestic and export shipments. Primary Duries and Responsibilities: Interpret Contract/Sales Orders in order to prepare Government and Commercial Packaging Sheets, Bills of Lading, and other shipping documents to achieve shipment of products in accordance with government, contractual, or specific purchase order requirements. Select carrier capable of providing the service level required at best rates. Review all types of shipping documents and freight bills for accuracy and correctness to verify the responsibility for charges and service level utilized, and the rate in accordance with the most recent rate sheets. Prepare reports documenting errors and investigate in an attempt to correct problems. Interface with various government agencies, customers, and internal departments to accomplish proper documentation and shipment method of materials. Access Wide Area Work Flow (WAWF) system to process government documents. Process and verify Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) labels per contract. Trace and facilitate the movement of urgent shipments. Maintain various shipping logs. Prepare reports, charts, and or graphs as requested by management or customer. Stage incoming and outgoing items for packing and shipment; establish proper packaging methods in accordance with applicable military, commercial, and/or customer requirements. Determines size and type of crate, dimensions, kinds and sizes of wood and other materials used in fabricating non-standard and special shipping crates and boxes. Plan sequence of operations and methods of packing to ensure items are securely packaged and secured for shipment. Provide estimates in support of proposal activity for all related packaging and shipping tasks. Coordinate with suppliers, order packaging materials, and maintain inventory. Perform packaging procedures as required by law for safe transport of hazardous materials. Use various power and hand tools incidental to the performance of assigned tasks. _Position is first shift on a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off_ Pay Information- **Union Role-** **Full-Time Salary Range: $24.92-$37.55 per hour** This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages. Communicate effectively both orally and written. 3. Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with company personnel, external customers, freight companies, and suppliers. 4. Utilize computer skills to prepare appropriate reports and shipping documents. 5. Make decisions using sound judgement while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including government property movement, and import/export policies (i.e. Mil Standards, ASTM packaging standards, Export packaging policies). 6. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., bend, stoop, and reach. 7. Forklift, Material Handling 8. At least 3 (three) years of traffic management experience. 9. At least 3 (three) years of experience in packaging of commercial and military items in accordance with military and commercial standards. **Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills** Qualifications: 1. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications. 2. Highly versed in processing Import/Export documentation. 3. ESD Certification. 4. At least 5 years of traffic management experience. 5.
