Traffic Intern - Summer 2026
Jacobs is seeking a Civil/ Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Transportation team working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges locally and worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team and be involved in a variety of engineering tasks for our DOT clients; aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure. In this position you will work with a multidisciplinary team taking on a variety of tasks that blend your theoretical knowledge with practical application. Under the guidance of professional engineers, architects and other senior technical staff you will work on a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects related to traffic operations, safety analysis, corridor studies, traffic simulation modeling, signal timing & operations, and traffic design (signals, signs, pavement markings, illumination, ITS, etc.). Work will be performed utilizing Big Data, with traffic engineering software including SYNCHRO, Vissim, Highway Capacity Software (HCS) as well as traffic design software like OpenRoads and SignCAD.  This position demands a results-driven, client-focused professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a strong work ethic (choose 2-3 skills/ ideal candidate characteristics). You’ll take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you by demonstrating the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team. Your ability to manage your time and responsibilities effectively while maintaining a high standard work product will be instrumental in delivering successful project outcomes.
