Traffic Control Plan Designer
Job Title: Traffic Control Plan Designer (Entry Level) Location: Richmond, VA (On‑site) Job Type: Contract (6‑month engagement) Workplace Type: On‑site Schedule: Full‑time Overview We are seeking an entry‑level Traffic Control Plan Designer to support the creation and coordination of temporary traffic control plans for roadway and infrastructure projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring public safety and regulatory compliance through the development of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans that meet MUTCD standards and local jurisdictional requirements. This position is ideal for individuals interested in traffic engineering support, CAD design, or transportation operations who enjoy working cross‑functionally with internal teams, field staff, contractors, and government agencies. Key Responsibilities + Create detailed temporary traffic control and MOT plans using CAD‑based tools, such as AutoCAD and RapidPlan. + Ensure all plans comply with MUTCD standards and applicable local and state regulations. + Prepare and submit traffic control plans for contractor and government agency review and approval. + Coordinate with internal project teams, field personnel, and external partners to support project execution. + Assist with project scheduling, dispatch coordination, and customer communication. + Produce site sketches, revisions, and as‑built drawings as required. + Manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail. Required Qualifications + Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) experience. + ATSSA Certification (required). + Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn technical software tools. + Basic understanding of roadway safety concepts and traffic control principles. + Strong communication, organizational, and time‑management skills. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have) + Experience as a CAD Designer or Drafter. + Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or RapidPlan. + Familiarity with MUTCD and local traffic control requirements. + Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certification. + Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Work Environment + On‑site role supporting active traffic and infrastructure projects. + Collaborative environment involving office staff, field teams, and external partners. + Fast‑paced setting supporting multiple concurrent projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
