No County Ulster Street Address Sojourner Truth State Park 100 Sojourner Truth Way City Kingston State NY Zip Code 12401 Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager or designee, the Trades Generalist will perform journey-level work in plumbing as well as skilled and semi-skilled tasks in other trades. This position will aid in the rehabilitation, construction, and repair of state park buildings, structures, and infrastructure using the standard tools of the trade. This position may also require traveling to work in other parks within Ulster County.The job duties of this position include, but are not limited to:• Drains, winterizes, and recharges the park water system seasonally.• Plan and lay out work including, but not limited to: boiler, heating, and ventilation system operations• Diagnose and repair broken pumps, pipes and fixtures, clearing blockages, installing new components, and expanding or modifying existing systems.• Visually inspect fixtures and equipment and use appropriate test equipment such as pressure and vacuum gauges to determine the cause and location of the problem and make repairs or adjustments as needed.• Maintains adequate levels of supplies, tools, and equipment to accomplish tasks; makes necessary purchases following all Agency guidelines.• Operates machinery such as skid steers, excavators, backhoes, and loaders. Completes daily maintenance procedures for equipment.• Performs basic servicing of motor equipment including troubleshooting, checking fluids, changing fluids, parts, etc.• Requires use of hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments appropriate to the assigned trade.• Will be responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects, working independently with minimal direct supervision.• Assigns, supervises, reviews, trains, and evaluates work of lower-level employees.• Assists with maintenance of roads, paths, and trails.• Assists in snow and ice control and operates snow removal equipment.• Assists with tree removal/pruning operations that require the operation of chippers, stump grinders, and lift equipment as needed. • This position involves medium to heavy physical labor and working outside in all weather conditions.• Assists in other areas of park operations as directed.• Communicates effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner. • Adheres to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks. Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience. Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and complete Game of Logging level 1, 2, and 3 or equivalent training within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
